After skirmishes in Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana, the next big union battle is brewing at your local post office.

The U.S. Postal Service’s two largest unions blasted the financially strapped agency’s proposal to cut as many as 120,000 jobs and pull its workers out of the retirement and health benefits plans covering federal workers for a new benefit systems.

The Postal Service, which is facing a second year of losses totaling $8 billion or more, would need congressional approval for its plan and cooperation from the postal unions, which have contracts that ban layoffs unless Congress intervenes.

But the American Postal Workers Union, APWU, and the National Association of Letter Carriers, NALC, made their opposition clear.

“What is going on in the post offices?”

“Look for the union label”

It sounds like the slogans the guys at Eastern Airlines had. “Full pay to the last day!”

What is going on in the post offices?

Unions.

As with all unions, the inept, the lazy the incompetents can't be fired.

Or they could farm out the mail to UPS or FedEx and have it done efficiently by the private sector.

If they let Walmart deliver the mail they would turn an $8 billion profit. I bet the unions and the libs would just love that.

The USPS is so convenient and inexpensive that I’ve switched almost entirely to email, online billing, and the occasional fax.

Hopefully the intransigent union can be defanged without causing even more unemployment in the US

Reagan had the solution, fire them all and hire replacements(no impact on unemployment). It would be a lot safer than firing air traffic controllers. How many planes crashed because of that?

So have I, but there are still the occasional things I have to mail by the USPS. As for expensive, mailing a package is often cheaper with USPS than it is with UPS or FEDEX. There is no reason the USPS has to be so inefficient, Unions are the problem, or at least a large part of the problem.

When clerks are getting 90-100K to sell stamps you know something is wrong. Shut it down.

Pray for America

My take on this is that the Administration has no problem moving us up the technology adoption curve in terms of energy technologies (incandescent lights for example) to accomplish "green" goals. Well, clearly the USPS is a dinosaur - we all know where it is headed, the only thing in dispute is precisely how fast? Why not accelerate the move away from paper communications by subsidizing electronic communications and accelerating the disappearance of the USPS? If it had energy and environmental benefits (and it would almost have to ) why not?

Just the entertainment value in watching the Democrats and the postal unions eviscerate each other would be worth it.

@Yup....You said you didn’t have a dog in this fight...if you are paying taxes then you are paying the salary of this janitor making 22 bucks an hour....I’d say you have a big dog in this fight.

Ok here is how we solve this problem. We mandate that everybody buy stamps. If they don’t buy stamps we will get the IRS to take it out of their payroll taxes up to $700.00 dollars. We will exempt union members from having to buy the stamps. Hold on here. We could close down the post office, and mandate that everybody buy stamps from private companies like Fed Ex., and UPS. Yes it’s sarcasm.

Have you ever heard about people who sit in their cars in the garage and put a hose from their tailpipe into the car to suck up the carbon monixide to commit suicide?

This is what public unions and Democratic politicians do, when it all comes down.

The problem is that the public sector relies on the private sector to feed it; the private sector is not doing well now, and the Government officials, unions and politicians who gamble with the house’s money (taxpayers) and promised THEMSELVES BIG FAT SALARIES, BENNIES and PENSIONS W/BENNIES now cannot pay for them by stealing from the private sector.

F the USPS, let the AA hires and 400 pounders go mow lawns or try “Income at Home.”

I pay my bills online and have a corporate FedEx account for large parcels for my company’s business. My wife uses USPS for her EBay business, but hey, we charge more for shipping, then.

I am so sick and tired of Government, at every turn, some asshat Gub’mint worker needs MORE. These people do not face the reality of a person in business; their jobs are secure, over-market and promotion or advancement is a function of years “served” not who is best qualified or brightest.

It’s the long slog for the fattie pension, of which you would need $1MM saved to get the average one in CA at a 5% return.

Lib with a nice rack, I will say...but Sean Penn dumped her and I saw she’s gained “a few” in recent tabloid shots.

ObamaBot incarnate, but decent actress.

Well, maybe the unions have a point. If the usps would just keep them emmployed and send them a check every month but just lose all that nonsense about driving around and delivering letters, they could save tons on gasoline costs. Shutting down the post office buildings and selling them would save big bucks too. Then they would have enough to maintain the payroll.

Possibly, if we’re already bailing out the supposedly self-sufficient USPS.

True, but of his strong leadership in WWII and this statement, every other Progressive idea was an abject failure.

Kind of like Bush I and II, who I detested on some things and liked on others....

Obama and Carter, they were 100% wrong in EVERY decision.

Clinton had Gingrich to balance his NWO/Lefty ways out.

I pay my bills online...
*************************************************

Been doing this for over 10 years and can’t understand why everyone isn’t doing the same. In all that time I have never had a bill go astray or unpaid. It’s worth it just for the fact I don’t have to address envelopes not to mention not pay postage.
