The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee yesterday expanded its investigation into the negotiations that led to newly announced vehicle fuel economy standards, charging that the White House worked out a secret deal that was outside the scope of the law.
In a letter (pdf) to White House legal counsel Kathryn Ruemmler yesterday, Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) also said he was concerned that the new corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) and vehicle greenhouse gas standards that President Obama spent much of the past two weeks touting would increase vehicle costs for consumers and negatively affect safety standards.

Overwhelm the system.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Issa seems to be looking into lots of stuff - wonder if he’s got anything that will result in Obamanation officials doing the perp walk? Wish they could nail that jag Eric Holder.
I suppose he had to say SOMEthing other than, "ozero's an asshole and smokin' crack if he thinks this is even remotely possible."
Something is fishy about all of this for the automakers to sign on so easily.
Yes, this bypasses the normal regulatory channels and everybody thinks that is good.

They're called mopeds.
Thank goodness! These idiotic new CAFE standards are just a further nail in the coffin of the economy and the auto industry. First, Americans are not going to buy tin box 54 mpg cars in any significant numbers. Second, in the interim, with the current government opposition to the energy industry and exploration and development, we are just going to fall further and further into dependence on foreign oil. I was flabbergasted when I heard these new standards.
Believe me, there are only two parties that will benefit from these new tenets - the unions and the Democrat Party!
0bama is trading Barrels of Oil for Body Bags.
He’s more concerned with reducing oil consumption than he is about the health and welfare of the American Citizens.
Because to get these mileage results the only way to do that is to reduce the mass of the vehicles. Statistic show that under 2000 lbs people are far more prone to injury or death in a car accident.
When his freaking kids are driving around in Smart Cars then I will entertain his lecturing to me that i must have a more fuel efficient vehicle.
For every 1 mpg of CAFE, there is an increase in mortality in vehicle collisions that imply an additional 7,000 deaths per year.
Actually, he doesn't care about oil consumption. The goal is to eliminate the private automobile, at least anything that can travel long distances. They are too difficult to control and our mobility is one more thing the Marxists want to control.
CAFE standards should be repealed for the same reason Obamacare should be repealed.
You won't even miss the 25 or 50 cents you put in a FR Change Jar daily, but at the end of the month you will have at least $5 to donate so FR can operate smoothly, or you will moan and grown and go into withdrawal when it is down, because of broken parts, or over loaded servers during crisis events.
