The NAACP recently brought its 102nd annual convention to Los Angeles. The gathering touched on a variety of topics, but clearly one issue dominated the three-day affair: voter identification laws.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters gave a speech telling the delegates that voter ID laws are "21st century poll taxes and literacy tests." Apparently unafraid of the race card charge, Waters unapologetically defended race-conscious policies and told the audience, "We cannot be worried that some people will say, 'Oh, they're playing the race card' ..."
Benjamin Jealous, the NAACP's president, opened the convention by saying, "Our voting rights are under attack ..." and that voter ID laws are "the last existing legal pillars of Jim Crow."
This must have some folks wondering, "So, when did showing identification, something just about every American does several times in the course of a day, become bigoted and controversial?"
Even a respected former president, Bill Clinton, has echoed Maxine Waters' claims. Speaking to a group of liberal youth activists recently, Clinton called voter ID laws a determined effort by Republicans to keep blacks from voting.
As might be predicted, the Reverend Jesse Jackson has also made voter ID laws a priority. At the 40th annual Rainbow Push Coalition conference, he argued that black people and "other (unnamed) minorities" who tend to vote Democratic are less likely to carry ID with them.
If that's true, instead of conjuring-up "new Jim Crow laws," wouldn't it be more helpful if Jackson was leading a positive campaign to educate poor black people about the benefits of acquiring and carrying ID like casting a vote?
However, the claims of racist voter ID laws stand on legal sands that have already eroded. In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can require voters to produce photo ID,...

Of Course they do that with many of their issues.
>>The question begging for an answer is why only 29 states have voter ID requirements?
I’m in MA, one of the ones that doesn’t. Showing ID is a must in many other parts of life.
“Welcome to Motel 6.”
“Hi, I made a reservation online? Last name is (name)”
“OK, I’ll need to see your ID please.”
(TSA Agent): “You’ll need to show your driver’s license to me and hold on to your boarding pass...”
(Police officer): “License and registration...”
(the agent will check off the boarding pass but I mean to say you need a lic. or ID to get on a plane)
Whatever the racists and commies scream loudest about is what’s most effective against their criminal plans.
That’s correct. Any law abiding citizen has to have ID at some time or another.
Why not just put photos on the race cards?
The projection of Communists is so hysterical.
Voter fraud is the goal.
It’s like Illegal Alien Amnesty, it’s 100% about Democratic voters who need the system.
Yep, voter ID will not stop all voter fraud but it’ll sure make a dent in it and the Rats know it.
I think they must be concerned about all the deceased African-Americans who will be disenfranchised.
no drivers license, car registration, credit cards, insurance cards, pistol permits, company ID cards, etc
Nancy Pelosi has just said that criticizing the current President is racist. That would make every word that Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Jesse Jackson, et al, ever uttered against President Bush a racist remark, not a political one.
If our current occupant of the WH cannot tolerate the kind of opposition that every other president has had to endure, doesn’t that kind of prove the argument that he is not “equal” to them? Eh, Nancy. I’d love to hear your answer to that quandery.
I work in a bank. You’d be surprised how many people just mosey around town with absolutely no valid ID on them.
Then they get pissed that I can’t cash a $2000 check for them, having never met them before...
How do they get into any municipal or state office building to sign up for any benefits without an ID?
OK...so...Waters and her pals say that literacy tests are aimed at preventing black from voting. I can only deduce from this that Waters and her ilk believe that blacks are inherently less literate than other races.
And they say the Republicans are racist.
Mind-boggling.
Yes, it was even mentioned in the article that many don’t carry ID with them but they have to have ID somewhere.
I don’t think it too much to ask them to carry it with them to vote.
I guess that explains why you never see minorities on airplanes.
I'll bet if we actually had a law DENYING identity documents and personal credentials to minorities, they would not like THAT either...but here they are rejecting the very thing that sets individuals apart from 'property' and the very thing so many tens of thousands died to guarantee to them as a right. They are SO confused.
After black flash mobs attacking whites, whites are in no mood for black BS. As economy stagnates, blacks are better served by keeping low. Riot and unemployed whites will shoot to kill because they are not in a happy mood. Prosperity is the best time for color BS, because a typical white guy will give them a little benefits to keep the color man quiet. Today, whites don’t have jobs or money to give, but a bullet to the head.
