Article from 2007:

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry said today he will oppose efforts to repeal a law, which he signed six years ago, giving tuition breaks to undocumented immigrants attending state universities.

``I'm for leaving the law like it is because I think it serves a good purpose,'' he said.

Perry said he and the media might have failed to adequately educate the public about the tuition law, which has drawn fire during the ongoing debate over illegal immigration.

State legislators have filed at least four bills to repeal the measure, which grants lower, in-state tuition to the children of immigrants who have lived in Texas at least three years, have graduated from a Texas high school and plan to become citizens.

Opponents say it is unfair to give the financial break to illegal immigrants when many U.S. citizens who are non-Texas residents have to pay more to attend college here. Supporters say it helps immigrants become productive citizens.

I’m not afraid of anything. I’ve done fine during the Obama years. I’ll do my best come what may. It’d just be sad to see conservatives hand him re-election, more SCOTUS picks. But, at this point, I could see it happening. Not because of Perry. Because of the electorate.

I still haven’t grasped why illegals need college to do the jobs Americans won’t do.

What you say may very well be true but this is not obama vs Perry... yet... and as an American Conservative... I will discuss and critique all candidates... including Palin... and I will support the candidate that best fits my vision for America. In the end... romney and huntsman are an absolute third party challenge guarantee. The hardcore Perry supporters have to understand that everything Perry has ever done... ever said and ever promoted will be brought out and discussed all over America and in the press. Everything Palin has endured is coming Perry's way. Some of it will be underhanded and dirty... some of it will be factual. I think we all know how to tell the difference.

Gov. Perry Announces TEF Investment in Solar Power Company

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the state will invest $1 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in HelioVolt Corp. of Austin for the construction of a 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility and development space to test and produce the company’s thin-film solar power cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. The deal will create nearly 160 jobs and $62 million in capital investment.

HelioVolt Corp puts off growth. Plant is ready but demand not there..yet

Sounds like somebody has a bass akward business model.

You think Perry is the best candidate to beat Obama but you are concerned that enough conservatives could stay home if he wins the nomination and so give Obama the win.

The best candidate for Republicans is a guy you can’t be sure the base will vote for over Obama.

Brilliant.

That’s fine. The truth is what it is. I just hope our electorate doesn’t do something foolish when we get a career politician with a spotty record as our nominee.

If that is true... it is a positive for Perry... because my governor... Haley Barbour... a HUGE corporatist... would steal your home for a chicom umbrella factory if he thought it would bring any money into the states accounts. He has taken homes from Mississippians and given their property to Nissan and GE... and that is just not right... it goes against the very foundation of the Founder's intent.

It’s very basic. I don’t trust the current conservative electorate to use common sense.

Perry was the sponsor pushing for the Trans-Texas Corridor to give Mexico an expressway through Texas.

“In January 2001, Perry proposed the Trans-Texas Corridor, a $145+ billion-dollar project that would build multi-lane highways, rail lines and data lines from Oklahoma to Mexico, and from east to west in southern Texas. Instead of paying for the project with taxes, Perry proposed that it be partially financed, partially built and wholly operated by private contractors who, in exchange for a multi-billion dollar investment, would receive all toll proceeds, notably Cintra, a Spanish-owned company, and its minority partner, San Antonio-based Zachry Construction Corporation, one of Texas’ largest road construction companies.[87] Some of the more controversial aspects of the project include tolls, private operation of toll collections (at rates set by local municipalities), and extensive use of eminent domain (or the option for landowners to maintain a lucrative equity stake in the project) to acquire property.

Opponents portrayed the proposal as a “land grab”, and criticized Perry for opposing the public release of the actual terms of the 50-year deal with Cintra to the public for fear they would chill the possibility of the company’s investment; Perry’s former liaison to the legislature, former State Senator Dan Shelly, returned to his consulting/lobbying work with Cintra after securing the TTC deal while on the state payroll. All of Perry’s gubernatorial opponents opposed the corridor project, as did the 2006 state party platforms of both the Democratic and Republicans parties.[88][89] After much contentious debate between supporters and opponents, an official decision of “no action” was issued by the Federal Highway Administration on July 20, 2010, formally ending the project.”

I do not trust any elected republicans that hold office. All have to prove themselves after boehner lied to our faces and then tried to say he didn't and he did it more than a few times since his “We have heard you loud and clear” speech.

Perry seems to do whatever his corporate masters tell him to. I’m not sure he has a mind of his own so to speak.

Nope. At the moment, Perry is the best candidate we’ve got. I’m not voting for a congressman from MN or a guy who ran burger joints, or a failed senator, or a congressman from TX, or a professional self-promoting, bloviating failed Speaker, or Romney. Did I forget anyone?

So you're supporting the former state chairman of Al Gore's presidential campaign.
