Together We Can Beat the Deficit We did it in the 1990s and we can do it again today. By PATTY MURRAY, MAX BAUCUS AND JOHN KERRY

Our country has long been a beacon of light in the world because the American people always come together when times are tough. Over the past few months, in debating the debt ceiling and deficit reduction, that light of common cause has appeared to flicker at times in our nation's capital. As appointees to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction—12 members of Congress charged with finding $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade—we hope to remedy that.

This is not going to be an easy task. Washington is mired in gridlock, and pundits and special interests from both sides of the aisle are already heaving boulders at our committee. But this issue is too critical to be examined through the typical ideological lens. And if this committee is going to deliver the results Americans deserve, we are going to need to meet eye-to-eye as people despite outside efforts to divide us as partisans.

Make no mistake, this is an important moment for our country. Millions of Americans are still hurting, working overtime to pay the bills, struggling to find a job and a way forward for their families. Trillions of dollars in private capital are sitting on the sidelines because businesses are not yet confident enough in our economy or in their lawmakers to invest in the future. These families and businesses are demanding that this new committee work together to overcome the partisanship and brinksmanship of recent months and put our fiscal house in order.

I do agree that Washington State is a beautiful place and it does have some really weird people there, but also has some very good ones there..I really don’t think Patty Murry won that election I think they cheated and gave her some dead bodies and illegals.when I say they I mean the democrat criminals..You don’t think they would lose the majority in the Senate do you.If she had of lost the whole country would be different without the criminals in control..

For easy 25% deficit reduction, reduce the committee by Murray, Baucus and Kerry. As long as Kyl and Upton don’t both go RINO sanity would get at least a 5-4 working majority.

Your answer, one down, 14,699,999,999,999 more times to go.

And if you double it, it won’t make any difference.

We can do this.....but we have no ideas.

We will wait for the Republicans to balance the budget and then we will take credit for it.

Ahh... but if 150 million people repeated it every hour from now until the election (503 days), then it would be repeated 1.8 trillion times and... that’s how screwed we are, friends.

I’m not subscribing in order to read the article, so I’ll just guess that the prescription for beating the deficit is to increase spending— by a large amount and right now.

Don't forget higher taxes, I'm sure that's in there as well.

About a month ago, my hero, Dave Ramsey laid out the financial conversion of the federal budget to how it would look for the average family. My numbers may be off a bit as I am doing it from memory, but the scope is there.

Average Family, if they spent like the feds:

Annual Income: $50,000
Annual Spending: $90,000 - 180% of annual income
Existing CC bill: $330,000

Now, if this same family wanted to increase their income (raise revenues) and they patterned that after the same numbers that the dems are discussing for “taxing the rich” it would equal that family getting a second job that earns an extra income of $80 per year……yes, that is eighty dollars, I did not leave of a K or anything….

But don’t worry about it, this family doesn’t have a spending problem either.

Not to worry, 0bama's going to give a speech as soon as he gets back from the Martha's Vineyard vacation.
That'll fix it.

Don’t forget, part of the so called “Clinton surplus” was the extra $$ going into Soc Sec , allegedly into the trust fund. That money should NEVER have been counted in general revenue.

Trillions of dollars in private capital are sitting on the sidelines because businesses are not yet confident enough in our economy or in their lawmakers to invest in the future.

The democrat proof-readers must've missed that line. That's what all those filthy rich CEO's have been saying for the last 2 years.

The rich need to pay their fair share....

Of course, that would be less than the 70% they pay now, because the "poor" need to pay their fair share, as well. The Fair Tax would accomplish much to restore our economy.
