Obama's Jobs Package May Include School Renovations And A Tax Break For Hiring

The president's proposal would mean construction work and an incentive for businesses to add employees. It's expected to come with a plan to reduce federal budget deficits.

By Peter Nicholas, Christi Parsons and James Oliphant, Washington Bureau August 17, 2011

Reporting from Washington and Alpha, Ill.— The jobs package that President Obama plans to unveil shortly after Labor Day could include tens of billions of dollars to renovate thousands of dilapidated public schools and a tax break to encourage businesses to hire new workers, according to people familiar with White House deliberations.

As aides work to put together the proposal, they are also hammering out a companion plan to reduce federal budget deficits over the next decade, which Obama would share with the 12-member congressional "super committee" charged with finding long-term fixes for the growing national debt.

The deficit reduction plan would rely on some of the ideas Obama worked on in private negotiations with House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) this summer, aides said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a proposal that is still taking shape.

More shovel ready jobs that “weren’t really shovel-ready”. More money for signs touting a federal program that doesn’t work. Yipee.

What plan?

There’s still no plan on the table.

Other than vacation.

Same old bullsh*t, new song.

Make-work “jobs” for Unions, at 25% over the Union-set “prevailing” wage.

Massive new spending...

So, spend more on schools, and try to trick employers into hiring workers against their own best interests.... I’ll bet the tax breaks won’t cover the cost of Obamacare.

The good news is that Obama and the dims are desperate to shore up their base. That's the only possible explanation for a silly move like this as the election season is ramping up.

He knows the stupid middle is on to him and would otherwise be talking about small business tax breaks etc. in this political climate.

Nope, Obama is in VERY serious trouble and everyone on the left knows it. He no longer inspires passion or commitment in his own fold.

This is a slow motion train wreck of Carteresue proportions.

Tax Break for Hiring.

Things are bad indeed when you have to bribe businesses to hire.

In reality he should have done in 2012, but the problem is that he is doing it now. Like he showed his Birth Certificate. He should have waited until 2012..

Just what we need: more labor cartel handouts. Who do you think will perform the school upgrades? We spent $850 billion on the first stimulus. Why weren’t the school upgrades included?

A tax break for hiring? Hired to do what? Does this fool think that businesses hire people just to have employees?

OOOOOH I get a tax break for hiring some schlub for the first year. What about the second year? Fat chance. I will get my ass taxed off for violating some new obamacare rule or some such rule that baraq made up yesterday.

NO THANKS. Won’t hire until there is some stability and predictability in this country. Can’t plan until then.

fubo fubo fubo. leave our country.

I am a civil engineer, and I have done renovation work like this. This being August...the beginning of the school year...an architect would be hard pressed to program and design a building, and get the plans approved by June...if he started TODAY. Why is June important? Its best to do demo when school is out. So, none of this would happen in 2012. At best, it will occur in June 2013...what a coinquidink....right in front of the election. He is hoping to reap the short term job gain, before the long term debt hangover from it sinks in.

let school renovations be handled by the districts that pay the bills for the schools Zero. Stay the f%#k away from our schools.

Don’t offer me a tax credit to hire someone. It’s a one time deal like the 3000 dollar one you dangled a year or so ago. I won’t hire ANYONE until I have a reason to. Products are not selling, there for, no additional help is needed at any price (if you want to pay someone full boat to work for me I’ll still turn you down)
