Residents vent their ire over economy at Pelosi, Lee in Oakland town hall
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 08/17/2011 | Josh Richman

They lined up dozens deep to tell of their economic struggles and to plead for help from the four Democrats lawmakers on the stage.

A single mother laid off in 2009; an electrician who has worked only six of the past 24 months; a janitor locked out of her job over a medical-benefits dispute; and many more -- the frustration was palpable at the "Speak Out for Good Jobs Now!" town hall meeting that Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, hosted Tuesday night at Acts Full Gospel Church of God in Christ.

Some of it was aimed squarely at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, who came to hear her constituents' stories. Rep. Mike Honda, D-San Jose, and Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairman Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., also attended. The meeting's purpose was to record stories for entry into the Congressional Record, but some clearly had come to vent their anger at Pelosi for what they see as Democratic inertia in the face of Republican aggression.

"Sellout!" someone shouted as Pelosi began addressing the crowd of about 900; shouts of "Tax the rich!" and "End the war!" punctuated her speech on job creation. Although her castigation of House Republicans -- for trying to gut the National Labor Relations Board, for delaying the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, and more -- drew some cheers, her critics remained focused. When she cited the recent deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling and cut the budget without raising any new revenues, a man angrily shouted, "Why did you vote for it?"

"Because default is worse," Pelosi answered, noting that the deal at least protected Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

I'm shocked...shocked at this response...

Why didn't she tell the truth?

"So I could find out what was in it" would have been more accurate...

But I thought SS, Medicare and Medicaid are paid out of the Trust Fund?

It certainly sounds like the crowd was filled with Democrats allright. All of them shouting GIMME,GIMME, GIMME.

Of course Nancy and Lee wil do exactly as they ask, they will do their damndest to give them entitlements, while making regulations and laws that will break the rest of us.

Nancy’s report of her findings from the meeting:

The people getting all the free stuff are mad at the people giving them the free stuff because they won’t give them more of their stuff. The people getting the free stuff are also mad at us politicians for not making the people giving away all the stuff give away more free stuff.
Recomendations:
1. People need more free stuff.
2. We must make the people that still have stuff give more stuff away.
3. I want to keep my job which supports a lifestyle that makes Bill Gates look like a piker. Billionaire? That’s nothing! I live like a $14+++ TRILLIONAIRE. Excuse me, I have to go ride on my 747 escorted by all those F-16’s.

The plantation is restless...

At the same time, it occurs to me that the Democrat leadership is playing with fire. Blaming their own failures on Republicans and the rich is the stuff of race riots -- inviting bloodshed.

I even wonder if that's what they actually want...

Oakland which was once an interesting city (regarless of what Gertrude Stein said) is now a joke. A tragic joke. Especially since it is represented by Marxist Barbara Lee. And what a gathering of Oakland morons (literally) and Marxist losers, led by Raul Grijalva, Arizona’s MeCha apologist! Would anyone with an ounce of sense expect anything positive to come from this gloomy gathering?

Oh you bet they want race riots. The dims have intentionally wrecked the economy. Lots of people out of work. Tax revenues all across the board is way down putting hand out agencies in a financial bind. They either have to cut back or go broke. Either way will upset the takers because the checks will stop. It is just a matter of time.

The dims passed all kinds of new spending with make believe money. It doesn’t exist. When they lost the House last fall, they didn’t seem upset at all. That was strange, but all this financial ruin is happening while the repubs have the House. As time goes on and the economy grinds down further, baraq and his media will constantly blame the repubs in the House for the problems.

When the checks stop, baraq, his party and his media will be encouraging the rioters to “take back what is theirs”.
They have coupled the cloward piven strategy with Van Jones’ violent revolutionaries. Cloward piven collapses the system and the van jones will organize the rioters through facebook and twitter.

Once the riots get going, then the feds will have to step in to restore “order”.

They are creating an enormous crisis in order to take advantage.

And yes I truly believe that the baraq administration would do this.

I agree -— my fear is they will accomplish their deeds in time to have to postpone the November 2012 elections due to the ‘civil unrest’.

Would not put it past them.

I love to see Pelosi talk. The more frustrated she is the faster her hands start flailing. When the audience kept yelling, “SELLOUT” at poor little Nancy I thought she was going to go airborne with her flapping wings.

Race riots would cause such massive losses by the Democrats that it would take decades to recover.

"Because default is worse"

Aha! She admits that it's a bad thing! So the follow-up question should have been "Why didn't you vote to cut spending so that we don't have to do this any more?"

(Yeah, I know - she would then mumble some gibberish about having revenue problems....blah, blah, blah).

I wonder too, certainly the GOP candidate will be a fool not to take a page from Nixon's "Law & Order" meme...albeit since the MSM won't actually show any of these Amish faces anymore, it would have to be a clever viral campaign.

Interestingly enough "Tax the Rich!" "End the War!" are things Pelosi could've done when SHE WAS SPEAKER from '09-'11 with Obama in his White House and Reid in his do-nothing-Senate.

I wonder if those screamers noticed.
