At Wednesdays town hall in Atkinson, Ill., a local farmer who said he grows corn and soybeans expressed his concerns to President Obama about more rules and regulations including those concerning dust, noise and water runoff -- that he heard would negatively affect his business.
The president, on day three of his Midwest bus tour, replied: If you hear something is happening, but it hasnt happened, dont always believe what you hear.
When the room broke into soft laughter, the president added, No -- and Im serious about that.
Saying that folks in Washington like to get all ginned up about things that arent necessarily happening (Look whats comin down the pipe!), Obamas advice was simple: Contact USDA.
Talk to them directly. Find out what it is that youre concerned about, Obama told the man. My suspicion is a lot of times theyre going to be able to answer your questions and it will turn out that some of your fears are unfounded.
Call Uncle Sam. Sensible advice, but perhaps the president has forgotten just how difficult it can be for ordinary citizens to get answers from the government.
When this POLITICO reporter decided to take the president's advice and call USDA for an answer to the Atkinson town hall attendee's question, I found myself in a bureaucratic equivalent of hot potato -- getting bounced from the feds to Illinois state agriculture officials to the state farm bureau.

Isn’t that what he said regarding the health care mandate?
Things Yogi Berra might say for $500, Alex.
Translation: If you are concerned about the Federal Government you are probably mistaken. So call the Federal Government and they will straighten you out.
Can you imagine trying to BS your way through the presidency? What a miserable thing to do.
The Clueless One actually believes that government solves problems...
Lou: WHO said it first?
Bud: Yes.
Lou: Yes what?
Bud: Not what, WHO.
Lou: WHO said what first?
Bud: Yes, but what said it second.
Lou: I dont know.
Laws are nothing. You can beat the law,but regulations have you by the testicles. If you find a way around the first one, a bureaucrat will amend it, until he gets you.
When you fight a regulation who do you go to? The guys that made it. Think you are going to get a fair hearing.. Bwahahaha Think ahgain.
Go read the article, then forward it to your Rep. This is disgraceful. After two days of telephone tag and dead ends, the reporter never got an answer.
...Yer quick B ...(-:
The liberal media has started to see whether or not the things Obama says are actually true.
He’s toast.
“....folks in Washington like to get all ginned up....”
Oh is that the latest excuse for the current administration inexplicable actions. I knew it had to be lots of alcohol or hard drugs.
Deny that new and onerous regulations are ready to be adopted. Paint those voicing opposition as ‘reactionary’ and ‘misinformed’.
Once the opposition has been embarrassed in to letting down their guard, put the new and onerous regulations in to effect via "Executive Order". Do this at 4:30 pm on the Friday afternoon before a long weekend.
On Tuesday morning scold those who accuse you of having lied to them. Say something like: “I never said new regulations were not going to be adopted. I said we were not preparing to adopt them AT THAT TIME. Well, last week, we BECAME ready to adopt new regulations. You should have voiced your concerns last week; it's not my fault you were not keeping up with current events. There's no point discussing it any further at this time, of course, because the new regulations have already been put in effect."
I’m SHOCKED to read this on Politico. Actually shocked.
Shouldn’t they be out investigating Joe the plumber’s license or Rick Perry’s sex life? Or something really relevant like the DNA of Palin’s Down Syndrome child?
“.....dont always believe what you hear.
That applies to anything Obama says.
:)
Yeah, and you will get to keep your doctor too!
