Obama’s Vineyard Break Teeing Off Many Critics (Obama Backlash Gaining Speed)
Boston Herald ^ | August 18, 2011 | Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa with Megan Johnson

Posted on 08/18/2011 5:21:32 PM PDT by lbryce

Hey, President Obama: The stock market’s in the toilet, the nation’s credit rating tanked and unemployment’s still over 9 percent, what are you gonna do now?

He’s going to the Vineyard!

The prez and his family are scheduled to arrive on The Rock late this afternoon to begin a 10-day vacation on the celebrity-choked summer home to the rich, famous and well connected. And as the first family got set to check into Blue Heron Farm, their $50,000-a-week summer rental in West Tisbury, the chorus of catcalls continued over the commander-in-chief’s ill-timed retreat.

Former Mass. governor Mitt Romney said Obama should take a pass on the Farm Neck Golf Club, call Congress back to Washington and get going on the economy.

“If I were president today, I wouldn’t be looking to go spend 10 days on Martha’s Vineyard,” the GOP White House wannabe said in a Chicago radio interview yesterday.

“Now, Martha’s Vineyard is in my home state of Massachusetts so I don’t want to say anything negative about people vacationing there,” Romney continued. “But if you’re the president of the United States, and the nation is in crisis, and we’re in a jobs crisis right now, then you shouldn’t be out vacationing. Instead, you should be focusing on getting the economy going again.”

Obama, who will be spending his summer hols on the island for the third time in three years, is expected to maintain a very low profile this year — even lower than his usual under-the-radar M.O. In contrast to former president Bill Clinton, who was a regular one-man party during his numerous forays to The Rock, the current First Vacationer is a recluse anyway.

Thanks lbryce. “In our top story, Rick Perry/Michelle Bachmann/Sarah Palin said/did something we twist out of its context and into something it’s not.”

Their sham marriage is obviously on the rocks. A happy couple would travel together.

They are definitely leisure, and evidence that he isn’t such a “great dad and family man”. That is a lot of time away from the kids.

BTW, any trip to Camp David should be counted as a golf outing unless it is raining. There is a full length hole set up to mimic Augusta National from 3 different tees.

Sweet, if you didn’t have a freaking country to run.

At comparative stages of their presidencies, Bush had made 26 visits to the ranch lasting all or part of 180 days, while Obama has taken 61 days' vacation, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS News White House correspondent who keeps detailed records of presidential schedules.

If these numbers are true, this says Obama has been in office 2 1/2 years and will have 71 days vacation. He is on pace (God forbid he gets elected again) to take a full year of vacation (355 days give or take) out of 8 years of being the "pResident".

I think I did the math right and that is Bleeping astounding. He is on pace to double what GWB in 8 years.

Obama is listening to all of this dissent, he will solve it by cutting his vacation short. he will be back in the White House in 9 days. LOL.

When the going gets tough........

Road Trip !

I like the way he has his schedule set up so he jets off to The Vinyard right after he subjects himself to the grueling ordeal of having to meet with those loathsome ordinary Americans in fly-over country.

It reminds me of how, some years ago when I used to listen to Howard Stern, he mentioned, in passing, that after the show he was off to have a colonoscopy, after which he was going to enjoy the long weekend at some exotic resort, I can't remember which one (this was probably 12 years ago).

Obama did the same thing. Had to go through an ordeal, but rewarded himself with something delightful afterward. Of course, Stern took a long weekend, and Obama's taking -- what? -- a couple of weeks, right?

Well, as I said, no one deserves it more than the most brilliant man ever to occupy the Oval Office.

Two things I wonder. One, is Obama so at ease because he knows he is soon leaving to take over a big spot on the international scene? They seem to be putting Hilary forth as President as it is she who gives the announcement (long, long overdue) that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must leave which a message that should be given by the President. She looks and acts extremely Presidential as she gives the message.

Two, I hope that a terrorist attack is not being allowed/planned in September and Obama knows that he will not have to worry about news about the economy or anything else because most news will be caught up in news about the attack for months and months. September 11 is the tenth anniversary of 9/11. I sure hope this scenario never comes to past.

All in all Obama is way too casual about his low numbers, our downgrade with the S&P and the big stock market drop and so are his handlers. I want to know what is really going on, what's up? They seem to be way underplaying their hand.

I, for one, now approve of the job the President is doing. I shall return to disapproving once this latest vacation is over and he goes back to work. But for now, he’s doing a bang up job of not screwing up.

I am sick of the pages and pages of damage control propaganda on Google when you query Obama vacations. The insist that Bush I, II and Reagan took more vacations. That is insane.

They are purposefully confusing vacations with having the White house set up in an alternate location. Bush had the White House essentially moved to Crawford Texas. The advantage was getting away from the beltway and being able to keep his head clearer by working at his ranch. I saw a documentary about how the ranch was set up just like the White House and all the work of being President was carried out there including meeting with foreign dignitaries. His going to the ranch was NOT a vacation. It was simply being able to get away from all of the beltway politics to think and behave without it's undo pressure.

Many other Presidents also set up alternate "White Houses" where they were more comfortable and better able to do their job, often at a home owned by themselves. The Bushes both did some of the business of being President at their homes paid for by themselves and not the tax payer. I believe this was also the case with Ronald Reagan. This is a far, far cry from all of Obama's lush and opulent vacations. This point needs to get out there as the Democrats love comparing the Bush ranch set up as an alternate White House with all of Obama's constant opulent vacations at the tax payers expense and/or at the expense of someone rich person that they may beholden to.

I have to quote the commenter Remember Fan from the site who says “What happened to “Together We Can” and “Hope and Change”? Is it now Together We Can Hope it Changes (the economy) while the President is on another vacation.”

Bush and Reagan vacationed back at their ranches, but the press went on and on about *vacation*. I do not recall either of them spending weeks at luxury venues costing $50k/week just for the rentals and including huge transportation and security costs, plus retinues on the taxpayers’ dime.

With zerO, they just say he doesn’t have a second home, so he can’t cheaply vacation in the country. Oh, and, of course, Camp David is *boring*.

Barack and Mooch are like a poor, undisciplined couple who win a big lottery and are broke a year or two latter.
