Last week on his blog, British subject-turned-Hollywood celebrity Russell Brand took a few moments to opine on the recent London riots. In an Aug. 11 post, Brand blamed former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for the civil unrest because the rioters have lost their sense of community.
These young people have no stake in society because Camerons mentor Margaret Thatcher told us theres no such thing, Brand wrote.
That raised the ire of National Review columnist Mark Steyn, author of the new book After America: Get Ready for Armageddon. On Hugh Hewitts syndicated radio show, Steyn said, The guy is a fool.

The abject cheekiness of these blighters never fails to astound me.
Steyn’s dissertation on the societal situation in England is right on. It as well applies to the growing situation that we have in this country. The only difference here is that we still have productive people in this country who raise their children to respect the belief that people must work to have and, in addition, that we have a very diverse population here. It is our cities that will suffer, and are suffering, the same fate as England.
Russell Brand is also extremely unfunny. HP has him promoting the company’s new tablet product. My guess is, if the suits at that firm are smart, they’ll dump him real quick.
Russell Brand is a piece of human debris and wade a nice springboard for Steyn to lay into this Liberal “utopian” society in England. One only needs to see Brands comparison of Cameron and Thatcher to know he is an idiot. Thatcher was 10 times the leader Cameron is.
He is also anti-Israel.
I could never stand Russell. I wonder how long after he snorted a line before Russ spewed this little gem? Maybe he and Janeane Garofalo can go on tour together...
Brand paints his face and dances for our amusement; he is a court jester, nothing more nothing less. To paraphrase Dr. McCoy, “His words are unimportant and we do not hear them.”
Barack Obama’s still blaming George Bush. Why shouldn’t Russell Brand still be blaming Margaret Thatcher?
-——It is our cities that will suffer, and are suffering, -——
Our cities are relics of a bygone era.
Only inertia holds them together. When the business dynamic that requires aggregation finally peters out, what we think of Philadelphia, Toledo, Detroit, Chicago, even perhaps Atlanta, will disintegrate. The proud Blacks that captured them will be left holding an empty bag.
Detroit is the first to fly apart and is nearly gone. The businesses remaining will be forced to move by economic necessity.
Regarding suffering cities. If cities are defined in different terms, then those noted are not suffering, they are being replaced. The fact they don’t matter is change. change is the only constant
He’s a fool with a hot rich wife. I wish I had his problems.
They have no “stake in society” because for the last 50 years they haven’t been expected to EARN their own stake in Society!
Duh!
The rioters are all “pets of the government” and they have been neglected the firm discipline that all children expect and now have intellectual rabies.
Obviously they need more coddling from the government.
One of the biggest box-office bombs of the year is Arthur’. HP (which I boycott), announced it will sell off the hardware/pc division. Brand also said something stupid about Palin. I hate this douchebag.
When I think of the current situation in England, I'm reminded of the character Onslow in the British comedy "Keeping up Appearances". If I recall, Onslow hasn't worked a single day in his life, earns his money through betting on horses, spends his time drinking beer, eating crisps and smoking cigarettes, and watching television.
Good thing: Steyn is calling out this no-load twerp on stupid statements (he should call out Pr Charles, too...)_
Bad thing: Calling out this twerp as if ANYONE gives a s**t what he thinks!
.
LOL... Well, seeing as how HP just dropped their tablet, I’m guessing they just dumped the tool too.
He’s married? I thought he was a poofter.
Russell, I’d bet that most of the rioters, white, black or brown, have never lived a day when Margaret Thatcher was prime minister. I mean they were literally not even born yet. Some of them weren’t even conceived yet. Okay, maybe you have a few grizzled vets who remember seeing her on the telly when they were toddlers, but that’s about it.
Back in the mid-nineties my wife and I went to a costume party as Hyacinth and Onslow. I should have demanded all in attendance to pay for my upkeep that weekend!
