Editorial: Obama's Amnesty-Light Is A Bad Dream

Immigration: Unable to get "comprehensive immigration reform" past Congress, the White House announces it will halt deportations on a case-by-case basis for some illegal aliens. Don't enforce the law and they will come.

Following a pattern of making law by regulation and executive order, the Obama administration Thursday announced it will impose a version of the Dream (development, relief and education for alien minors) Act on America through administrative fiat.

This is blatant political pandering in an election cycle at the expense of American citizens.

On Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Congress she has authority to halt deportation of illegal aliens not perceived to be a criminal threat as long as they meet certain criteria, such as attending school or having family in the military.

The new rules would cover up to 300,000 illegal aliens. In 2010, the government deported 200,000 with no criminal records. Under the new rules, most would now likely be allowed to stay and apply for permits.

Opposed by a majority of Americans and twice defeated in Congress, the federal Dream Act essentially grants amnesty to any illegal alien in America if they agree to enlist in the military or attend a U.S. college.

It's called a "path to citizenship," a path that leads right past the U.S. Border Patrol.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, a sponsor of the federal Dream Act, praised the DHS announcement.

I think I’m going to cross the border to Canada... stay there and expect to be treated like illegals here.

If it's so bad (And I know it is) where is Boehner?

The American people see no controversy if there is no opposition to it from within our capital.

Is THIS not treason? I’m not kidding. Somebody better stand up and freaking do something about this. This is aiding and abetting an invasion by a foreign force.

Obama has not only bypassed the Legislative Branch but has also did an end run around the Judicial Brand by declaring the DOM Act unconstitutional. He keeps getting a pass from both branches instead of challenging him on his actions. Of course the a$$ kissing Progressive media continues to back him. Who needs three branches of government when you are the Trinity ?

It is too late to stop it.

Obama does these things because he knows he can. He won’t be challeged by anyone in politics because they care more about whoring for votes. Some of them may talk tough, but that is all that might happen and Obama knows it.

hmmm? That must be what he meant by “yes we can”.

This is lawlessness but the Pubs are stunned since they are forced to be campaigning over the last budget hoo ha. This is a great maneuver for Bama who will get legal and illegal votes in the Hispanic community and law breakers will be given pocket amnesty and we the citizens will not know who where why or when they can appear free and unfettered by across the border law. Bama legislated this program without Congress. He will get away with it unless voters simply unite in 2012 and throw as many of these Dems out even if they ‘love’ their own fine little socialist!

But this lawlessnes is setting precedence for all future Presidents. What Bush avoided doing (executive orders on issues like this) will now be as normal as getting impeached and continuing to lead the nation as President.

Who's to say that some future President will not now sign an executive order to extend his term from 4 years to 4 decades?

Wow! Last night when Obama’s end run was first reported on Free Republic, the thread was at about 250 reponses when I read it. Freepers were FURIOUS!!! Now 24 hours later, there are only 9 responses and apparently everybody is accepting it as a done deal. Isn’t there anybody who cares? This just cannot be allowed. If this isn’t an impeachable act, nothing is.

This is not about what is right or wrong but has everything to do about increasing the number of future socialists who prefer to be called liberals.

This has nothing to do with what is right or wrong, or perhaps humanitarian reasons as most liberal politicians including many on the right really don’t give a damn about you or me. It is all about increasing the voter base as down the road most of them will vote for the socialists who in this country prefer to be called liberals. No wonder Dicky Durbin just loves this idea.
