Nunavut is a new territory of Canada. Probably not specified in the article because it is a Canadian website.

737-200 from the fleet listed on the company website. There are 76s in the fleet, too.

“Gravel-kitted 737-200 Combis are currently used by Canadian North, First Air, and Air North in northern Canada.”

My buddy from college flies for Canadian North. It’s pretty amazing what those pilots are trained to fly into with the old 737-200. Gravel fields, -35 degree ground temps, and absolutely nasty winter weather. It takes a special breed of pilot to do that day after day, I sure as hell couldn’t.

As for the weather up there at the time of the accident, they had very low ceilings, albeit a surface visibility of 8. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a major contributor to the accident.
