New EPA rule could lead to rolling blackouts in Texas, PUC chairwoman says

The head of the Texas Public Utility Commission expressed concern Friday that a new federal air quality rule, set to take effect Jan. 1, will cause disruptions in electric service.

If implementation of the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule is not delayed, "I have no doubt in my mind that this rule will result in reliability issues and rolling outages in Texas," Donna Nelson said at the start of the commission's meeting.

...

The company says the industry's standard time frame for installing emission controls is several years, but the rule requires compliance in six months. So Luminant, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings, has said it may have to shut down some coal-fired power plants in East Texas.

"Curtailing plant and/or mine operations will be the only option" if the 1,323-page rule goes into effect as planned, Luminant said.

the 1,323-page rule

...that's no rule. That's a classic Soviet-style central plan.

That just acknowledges King Obama's EPA and their rule.

You folks in Texas need to just keep your lights on by running the coal plants. This rule is aimed squarely at Texas. It's the EPA declaring war on one of our own states.

Already did. Remember? "Under my plan... electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket." Can't say I didn't warn you, America.

Not bad considering the AC has been running full bore with 103 to 112 deg temps all month

We need to face that Obama is an enemy in occupation of the White House. Texas needs to not comply and to start taking action against EPA and other Federal officials imposing targeted assaults on Texas by Obama. It is time for state nullification, to be charitable. Other states need to be thinking about similar actions.

That is true, but Perry has been in Obamas face from day one fighting this BS. It's tied up in the courts now, but we cant tie it up forever. Obama has a hardon for texas. It's time to bust it off and stickit in his keister

Wind and solar are a farce.
They are fine for auxiliary power but not as steady go to power.
They also take huge amounts of land.
It’s a joke.

the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule

The wind could blow for two weeks and a fart wouldn't make it across the Texas border.

This stuff is a bad joke. Seriously I could burn a stack of tires and no one in Arkansas is ever going to detect it.

We already are.

I have been trying to tell people. Rick Perry has defied this BS from day one.

And you are very correct, we are being targeted.

FUBO!

My electric company just announced that they were skipping the new coal fired plant and putting up a wind farm. They also announced they were raising my rates by another 6%.

Rolling blackouts should be a real treat in a Michigan January.

That’s what I was about to ask: What would happen if Texas told the EPA to shove their regulation up their arse.

Ater that Texas Rangers arrest anyone who comes to Texas to enforce it.

The they could take this through all the trials and to the Sup[reme Court ,since there is nothing in the Constitution to allow the Federal Government to enforce regulations in sovereign states.

I am sure the Feds first move would be to cut all Federal funds, but that should happen anyway. feds have no business controlling states by controlling their own money they give back to them.
