What if Obama quit ?
Hot Air ^ | August 19, 2011 | Ed Morrissey

I’m not talking about resignation, or just refusing to offer any proposals until after the next election. What if Obama simply decided not to run for a second term as President?

The thought occurred to me after reading Peggy Noonan’s piece this week for the Wall Street Journal, which argues that Obama has already quit in a practical sense:

The phrase of the day is “new lows.” It blares from every screen. The number of Americans satisfied with the ways things are going hits new lows—11%. President Obama’s popularity: new lows. The Dow Jones Industrial Average this year: new lows. Maybe it will enter ordinary language. “Charlie, it’s been ages. How are you, how’s Betty?” “I’m experiencing some volatility, but she’s inching toward new lows.”

The market is dispirited. I’m wondering if the president is, too, and if that won’t carry implications for the 2012 race. You can imagine him having lunch with political advisers, hearing some unwanted advice—”Don’t go to Martha’s Vineyard!”—putting his napkin by his plate, pushing back from the table, rising, and saying in a clipped, well-modulated voice: “I’m tired. I’m going. If they want this job so much let them have it.” …

The president shows all the signs of becoming a man who, around the time he unveils his new jobs proposal in September, is going to start musing in interviews about whether anyone can be a successful president now, what with the complexity of the problems and the forces immediately arrayed, in a politically polarized age, against any specific action. That was probably his inner rationale for not coming up with a specific debt-ceiling plan: Why give the inevitable forces a target? But his refusal to produce a plan became itself the target. Reverse Midas.

I’m predicting an LBJ moment when his party goes to him and says, you are poison to us, quit or we will primary against you and put our full power into making sure you don’t get a second term.

OFPS - we’d have Biden.

Narcissists don't quit because people don't like them, they get even... in some ways, an unpopular Obama is more dangerous than a popular one.

Can you say, "Sieg Heil"?

‘WHat if’s’ do not cut it for me, amounts to wishful thinking.
Let me know when it actually occurs. =.=

After the 2010 elections, he became a lame duck (not that he wasn’t already lame). But he’s already a success in his mind, having funded the unions & other cronies, and ladled Obamacare onto an already overdone turkey of a socialist infrastructure (if I may mix metaphors).

A Marxist regime has never gone out with a whimper. It always takes force, bloodshed and pain inflicted on the country that experiences it. I expect nothing less. It won’t be just busted “W’s” on computer keyboards and stolen silverware this time.

To not get the nomination would be a disgrace but then again, who would have ever thought that Hillary would not be the nominee??

They have to bank on him as a statistic...the incumbant....and nothing more.

Yes, undo everything DumBO has done.

Not news to me....I’ve thought as much in 2009. He is lazy, he brought it as far as he can...he can’t take the heat anyway. You can tell he lost interest once the bloom was off the rose. Once he had to actually WORK, it was much too much for him. He’s been in over his head since day 1. Our next president will be spending their term fixing this $hit sandwich he’s given us. What a legacy.

There was an article a few weeks ago..about him wanting to resign...but the powers that out him there won’t let him. Evidently, they haven’t extracted their pound of flesh yet

Me!chelle would NEVER let it happen. Lose the perks earlier than 2012? Fat (like a 5Guys burger) chance. My theory on the separate planes to MV (and Mrs. O dropping off the radar screen) she is pi$$ed at Buh-rock for ‘messing up’ and being a one termer.

Hillary’s purported flying ashtrays I fear will have nothing on Michelle Antoinette when packing up time comes.

They, I predict, will quietly divorce apres WH.

You're pretty right, Tzfat. But as Ed Morrissey said :

Some will scoff at the notion that Obama and his large ego would walk away from the office, but LBJ was also rumored to think pretty highly of himself.

He's lame alright, but don't forget his tzars and regulatory agencies like the EPA.

Not enough attention is being given to what is going on behind the scenes, imho.

I don’t think in the end LBJ really had a choice, the higher-ups in the DNC probably told him that they would not support him.

That’s why we have to keep pointing out that it’s DEMOCRAT policies, not Obama policies, that are failing.
