LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A back-to-school campaign is drawing criticism for encouraging graffiti among school-aged children.
The campaign, dubbed by the art-retailer Aaron Brothers as "Artrageous," is hosting free events and giving out free "graffiti starter kits" to participants.
But city council members are calling the move outrageous by promoting an act of vandalism as art.
Councilman Dennis Zine introduced a resolution this week trying to stop the company from hosting the event, claiming kids may be tempted use the tools for illegal reasons.
Zine is seeking a seek and desist order to legally prevent the store from holding the exhibit on September 10 if they give out the kits.
"What they're doing is promoting tagging, graffiti and trying to call it art," Zine told KTLA. "It's not art when your putting a mark on people's property and public property."
Zine says residents have expressed concern over the event, fearing a spike in tagging and other vandalism.
Aaron Brothers released a statement Saturday on the controversy, saying the program is "designed to celebrate and encourage artistic expression of artists" and the company does not "support or encourage vandalism of public or private property in any form."

If anything could anger descent, law abiding citizens its this story. You may want to just boycott Aaron Brothers over this callus, and just plan stupid promotion!! A Los Angeles councilman is denouncing a Graffiti Starter Kit being distributed by a major art store chain, saying it promotes vandalism. According to the office of Councilman Dennis Zine, Aaron Brothers is advertising and distributing the kit, which includes paints and markers, as part of its Artrageous promotion. Zine wants the store to stop passing out the kits or to post a message for consumers about the ramifications and penalties of graffiti vandalism.
This promotion is an assault on our community and sends a devastating message to our youth. It is unfortunate that Aaron Brothers is not attuned to the impact their actions may have on encouraging vandalism, Zine said in a statement.

This is one vile company, who also treats their employees like yesterdays garbage.

Just what every town needs.
“If anything could anger descent, law abiding citizens “
descent = decent.
spelchuck won’t save ya on that one..
and how many “decent, law abiding citizens” are left in LA, anyway?
Enjoy!
This to go along with the gang of 6 or gang of 12, that are in congress, who use that title..
Just use the kits were to “beautify” all the Aaron Brothers stores. Seems only fair.
Reading my mind...
The lying company officials graduated from the Tokyo Rose school of propaganda.
Were should be here. Doh!
I hate graffiti.....taggers should be locked up with the key thrown away....did I mention that I hate graffiti?
Me too...It’s tribal gang mentality, and all the kids pickup on that BS. These corporate hacks like those at Aaron Brothers pushing these graffiti kits, should be forced to remove that ugly crap along with the paroles and probationers. Then lock them up for their utter stupidity.
callus = callous
Pesky spiel chuck again.
Yeah, I’m gonna miss it.
