Think you’re referring to the Loma Prieta in Oct 89 (during World Serious in SF) was a 6.9 on Richter. Also its epicenter was closer to a densely populated area, causing deaths, structural damage, etc.

While today’s quake affected a broader area and overall far larger population, the center is not that close to a major metro area, closest being DC (or Richmond). And, from what I heard an expert say on the radio this afternoon, the way quakes rock/roll is different on the East vs West Coast.

I’m relieved, actually to think I’m not on a part of the earth that’s suspended over nothing

LOL!

Does God drop hints?

Yep, at least some of the time, imho, else I'd have been a smoking crater in my youth well before I grew up.

Good thing you didn’t have a gun handy, eh Fish?
(Bang! Husband comes out, “What was that?” Fish: “I shot the chair. There was something ALIVE in it, and the dog was edgy but didn’t pee enough.”)

I think my nerves are so shot from the original, I’m not feeling anything. There are times I wish I drank.

TaraP did post information about the coronal hole pointed our direction. There is an observed correlation between earthquake activity and coronal mass ejections. One interesting theory is that the arriving particles come to rest in the earth and the earth expands like an orange from the inside. That expansion is consistent with the observations of spreading at the mid-Atlantic ridge.

There are two likely effects at play this week. We are nearing a new moon syzygy and the coronal hole is pouring lots of particles earthward.

If you want to see some good "ringing", dredge up the seismograms after the Japanese earthquake or the big earthquake the generated the tsunami in southeast Asia. The earth was literally "ringing" for weeks afterward.

Not at all... in L.A. they put them on giant rollers and things to allow movement. Huge difference.

That provides additional protection for the really really big one. But steel reinforced concrete buildings, even old ones do very well in earthquakes.

God is Great!

Does anyone know the effect of a minor earthquake on sewer or septic systems?

My town is planing on placing a sewer system right behind my house. I’m against it as I would be the first victim to anything going wrong. It’s not as if this town didn’t have another property to place this sewer system on. One of my thoughts was what if an earthquake happened, wouldn’t all the towns cr@p end up in my cellar?

Anyway I’m glad this earthquake happened.

What exactly does this “sewer system” consist of?

It seems to me that a possible fault line would be in either a V or Y-shape. I’m not sure if anything like that has ever been discovered before, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of the hypotheses put forward to explain how it was felt over such a wide area. There has to be a branch off The Fall Line that leads towards the Great Lakes/Canada for them to have felt it.

As for an act of God, well... I’m usually not one for conspiracy theories, but for it to have been felt from North Carolina all the way up to Rhode Island and Canada, having been right around a 6.0 and a pretty shallow tremor... I’m not too sure anymore about what I believe.

She’s fine. She looked up when the bells started to randomly ring and saw the tops of three spires come down.

Just the other day I prayed for as many souls as possible to be saved. Maybe today was a wake up shake to get people in the right place?

From what I know right now, it’s supposed to be underground, covered with grass. No tourist would know it’s there. Other towns have above ground structures.

My cellar gets flooded every six months with underground water traveling to a creek. It’s been like this over 100 years.

To Christians, God made what we study in geology and meterology. He can do with them whatever He wants, whenever he wants and has throughout the history of mankind.

The endtimes has him using geology and meterology. :)
