I know, but I’m watching this spiral into absurdity rather quickly. I know the buildings aren’t built to the same codes as in California and the west coast, and people aren’t used to it, but Fox is reporting evacuations as far away as Canada! It’s just so amusing to watch something happen on the east coast, especially if it effects NYC or DC - it’s an instant media frenzy! I suppose it would be similar if a hurricane hit L.A., but I increasingly admire Japan’s stoicism.

I increasingly admire Japan’s stoicism.

Japan gets earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, super-sized thunderstorms, and occasional "lake effect" snow.

They have reason to be stoic.

Stuff like that just doesn’t happen here, which is why it’s so sensational. I looked for fault lines right along the east coast of the US on a few maps, and saw none, so naturally we’re pretty worried.

“Fox is reporting evacuations as far away as Canada! “

For such a shallow quake, differing types of soil, rock, may resonate far away from the quake???? Don’t know, but seems possible.
