Dog Won’t Leave Fallen Navy SEAL’s Side (Video)

Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson had a very close friend in his life – his dog, Hawkeye. Tumilson, a former San Diego resident, was killed August 6 in the Chinook helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of 29 other American servicemembers.

Tumilson’s funeral was on Friday in Rockford, Iowa at Rockford Senior High. Hawkeye was one of the 1,500 souls who attended. As you can see by the gut-wrenching photo on the right, Hawkeye refused to leave his master’s side during the service.

For a grizzeled ol vet, I surely am having a hard time seeing these pictures. May this wonderful, selfless, Seal rest in peace and may his dog be healed of his broken heart.

I love the loyalty animals show for their owners. It’s sad many people can’t be as loyal for even small things like their own word.

‘Gentleman of the Jury:

The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy.

His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful.

Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom
we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith.

The money that a man has he may lose.

It flies away from him, perhaps, when he needs it most.

A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in the moment of ill-considered action.

The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles it’s cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog.
A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness.

He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master’s side.

He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world.

He guards the sleep of his pauper master, as if he were a prince.

When all other friends desert, he remains.

When the riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is constant in his love as the sun in it’s journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that he accompany him, to guard
against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in it’s embrace, and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.’

Senator Vest, 1870

But this young man WAS loyal... “Faithful unto death” is the technical term. His dog’s the same way. We have many such young men and women. Sad thing is the despicable scumsuckers they’re forced to report to nowadays. The ones who run their mouths and give away information which then enables our enemies to lie in wait to ambush our finest young men. I say “young” quite q bit because, to my tired old eyes they’re no more than children, way, WAY too young to be out fighting our enemies. God bless his family, and the families of all those who died in this incident. May these warriors rest in peace.

Those photos are out of focus.
My heart breaks.

RIP Jon. You must have been a wonderful person to have such a faithful friend.

Hawkeye, I’m sorry your physical master is no longer here to give you hugs and treats. God Bless you and keep you.
