Be wary dragnet2, the Perrybots will “kill the messenger”.

First it was Michelle Malkin, then Tammy Bruce.

Some are so desperate to defeat Obama they will overlook anything negative on Perry.

BUT LET THE VETTING BEGIN!!!! If not the MSM or pundits, then let it be the bloggers and alternative media!!!!!

Perry’s not the problem. A electorate that could elect him to his position is the problem.

That was a poorly thought out tax bill. Texas already had a franchise/business tax with a lot of exceptions/loopholes but they screwed it up even worse. And all the paperwork you have to fill out just to prove you owe no tax sucks.

This is why so many people are leaving the state of Texas. The high taxes perry implemented.

That’s also why Forbes magazine lists Texas as one of the highest tax burden states in the us. We all need to move to Massachusetts. /sarc

The tax swap created a net tax decrease but...

ha ha ha. Give it up, people. First, any freeper quoting the Dallas Morning News is grasping at straws. Second, the statement above invalidates the entire premise. Third, following this policy change, the sea of businesses moving TO Texas increased dramatically, so it has to be pretty favorable to businesses.

Quiet...we don’t talk about Perry’s HUGE tax increase. We might lose our lusting for him if we do.

Apparently they were wrong, since the tax was passed in 2006, and still exists now — the courts must not have found it unconstitutional, and I assume they tried to get a court to agree with them.

I guess for the people who get their taxes raised, it’s a big tax increase, but otherwise it’s hard to agree that a net tax decrease counts as the biggest tax increase ever.

Note that by that standard, if we switched to a flat tax, added a rule that every citizen had to pay at least $100 of tax (just so they would all be participants), that would be the largest tax increase in the history of mankind (going from $0 to $100, an infinite tax increase).

No income tax, right?
No Corporate taxes?
No Capital gains taxes?

Ranked # 13 in business climate. That could be better.

45 out of 50 in State and local tax burden (1 is DC)

Kind of pathetic smear. I guess that is why businesses are fleeing Texas for California and NY?

I posted this another thread. I'll share it here.

I will personally make every effort to raise the level of discourse on the Palin and Perry threads. We must hold ourselves and each other accountable to the standards we expect of FReepers. This is an important election season. The liberals want nothing more than to divide us. If we keep the discussions focused on the candidates, we can avoid division.

I haven't been here long enough to exerience a purge and I certainly don't want to experience one now. If things continue down hill between Perry and Palin supporters, it could lead to that. A purge of one group or the other will weaken FR. Let's not put Jim in that position. We need all the conservatives we can muster to defeat Obama and his minions. Let's encourage civility and discourage personal attacks. We shouldn't have to ask Jim and the mods to police these threads.

Actually, the largest tax hike in modern texas history was in 1987, but don’t let that stop you.

Oh for Pete’s sake. Really? He’s a RINO now? This just gets more amusing by the day..between the paulbots and DUers, I am torn and who is funnier.

Perry will win the nomination and defeat Obama..he will appoint 2 conservative Justices and do wonders for our well standing in the world. Not to mention get the economy back on track. Watch him.

It's hard to believe but the Texas Gross Receipts (Margins) Tax on business proposed by a Republican, Governor Perry, and passed by a GOP dominated legislature in 2006 was further complicated in 2007. This was the largest tax increase in Texas history, which requires business to pay up to 10% of its gross income to the state while large corporations were given loopholes.
That is the so called "Fairtax" in a nutshell.

The Fairtax requires retail and service businesses (other businesses are exempt) to pay "23% of the gross payments" to the feds...every month - no deductions, period.

The Dallas Morning News and the Houston Chronicle??? These are two big-time liberal rags. I am a business owner in Texas and have seen no tax increases. With that said, I would like to know the truth on this. (Truth will never be found in the DMN and HC.)

It’s a good thing Ronald Reagan ran in 1980 instead of 2012. Obviously, after being a democrat most of his life and a union boss, he would have been ripped to shreds by internet purists.

Perry isn’t perfect but I’m not a purist. I think a Perry/Kasich ticket would have the best chance of getting a 60 seat majority in the senate and increasing the Republican majority in the house. No Republican president is going to change Washington much without 60 votes in the senate.

The article has it right on the business tax. It's essentially an income tax for businesses. It passed because, as always voters are always in favor of taxing the other guy, not realizing that businesses don't really pay taxes. The people who buy their products/services do.

Unfortunately, the people of Texas passed this thing in a State wide election. However, I do believe it’s better than a frank income tax and it did answer the court order.

There is are deductions, that change that problem for businesses with a loss. And local school district property taxes went down - where locals didn’t vote to move it as high as possible.
