Will be interesting to see how closely Irene follows the computer models.

Hazel! I remember Hazel when we got hit with 1t in Utica, NY 1954. Really made a mess.

Wait and sea....OMG...a spelling error pun!!!

if it can get on land earlier and lose some steam, it may just start to fizzle as it heads north.

That is a fairly alarming wind forecast. It shows maximum wind velocities of 80 - 100 mph for a band from about the NC/SC border up through Washington, DC West and points north; higher closer to the coast. I don't think people are looking a this type of forecast and are just looking at the main storm track and thinking they will be missed.

Agreed, and Bastardi is more often right than wrong.

What does this track mean for a storm surge for NYC?

"What does this track mean for a storm surge for NY"

A lot of that depends on when Irene crosses Long Island. I have seen speculation that if it comes in near high tide there could be very serious flooding.

Joe has been the official Weatherman at the Liberty household ever since he advised people in the track of Katrina to “Run for your lives” (he was at Accuwheather then).

I’ve been following the professional chatter on americanwx.com. They have been talking about a major downgrade for a day or two now. They said that you’d know the final nail in the coffin of the storm would be when Cantore showed up on Cape Cod... just sayin.

I like Joe's graphics. He must be channeling the late Nash Roberts - who did so much with colored chalk and later, dry-erase boards and markers.
