Police stop man from transporting fridge in car trunk
QMI Agency via Sun Media ^ | 2011-08-25

Police were called to a parking lot in Richmond, B.C., earlier this month where they found a man trying to load a full-sized fridge into the trunk of a four-door sedan.

"The fridge was one-third in the trunk while the remainder teetered over the edge of the car's bumper," Const. Justin Stewart said in a release. "The fridge was secured to the vehicle using rope and the seatbelts from the car."

Stewart said the driver told him he thought what he was doing was OK and apologized after he was told that the load was unsafe for transport.

He then removed the fridge from the trunk of his car and arranged for a less precarious mode of transportation, police said.

Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said that although there is some humour in the situation, someone could have been hurt.

"We'd like to encourage people to please take the time to properly transport items," she said in a release. "Insecure loads are to blame for collisions and injuries far too often, and these instances can be prevented."

Richmond RCMP / HO)

The reason that the Horsemen were handling this occurance is that the Province of British Columbia has contracted out police services to the RCMP for the provincial police jurisdiction and that of various municipalities including the City of Richmond.

IMO, Canada should disengage from this practice in all provinces and require the various provinces and municipalities to do their own work as is the case in Ontario and Quebec.

Fred Sanford could have pulled it off.

Fred G. Sanford had a pickup truck.
Hell, that looks just fine to me.

That is what happens when you give the Amish drivers licenses.

I've successfully done essentially the same thing.

Of course a trailer is a good idea if you don't own a pickup truck, but that wisdom comes later in life.

Looks a little creaky but hey, if the guy had only a couple hundred miles to go...

I do hope he took the beer out first.

Stacked 12 cases of empty Old Mil bottles on the roof of my 73 Maverick. The police followed us all the way to the liquor store but did not molest us. Circa 1985

One precaution I would suggest is to carry an extra car battery. That thing is gonna pull a lot of juice plugged into the cigarette lighter.

The whole point was to have beer at the rest stops.

Ninety nine bottles of beer on the truck, ninety nine bottles of beer.

What would happen if one of them fall,...

When I was a kid, my dad brought a shetland pony home in a convertable.

My buddy bought a Shetland pony as a Christmas present for his daughter, which he planned on giving on Christmas morning. Unfortunately, we partied hardy on Christmas Eve, never thinking on how to get it home. After a few more toddy’s , we took the back seat out of a 62 Chevy Nova 4 door, and stuffed it in with its head out the window. As luck had it, the state trooper was laughing so hard that he forgot to issue a ticket when we got stopped
