Conservative Bloggers Feud Over Perry and Palin
RealClearPolitics ^ | Thursday August 25, 2011 | Scott Conroy

An escalating series of insults and allegations exchanged between conservative blogger Erick Erickson and defenders of Virginia Senate candidate Jamie Radtke has taken an overt turn into Republican presidential politics, becoming the first publicly waged proxy battle between forces sympathetic to Texas Gov. Rick Perry and those inclined to align with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

It all began on Wednesday when Politico published an email that Erickson, the influential editor of RedState.com and a CNN contributor, sent to Radtke earlier this month. The email made clear that Erickson intended to soften his previously espoused support for Radtke, who is competing in a Republican primary against George Allen for Allen’s old Senate seat.

During her 2008 vice-presidential run, Palin consistently pushed back at the fundraiser-intensive schedule that the McCain campaign had set up for her and was always far more comfortable on the rope line than she was on the rubber chicken circuit, according to former aides.

An endorsement from either side might very well come at some point in the campaign, but the increasingly open warfare that is being waged in the conservative blogosphere is one sign that the apparent surrogates for the two prospective rivals are hunkering down in their trenches.

“Palin courts a more independent, slightly more free-thinking constituency than Perry,” Riehl told RCP in an interview on Thursday, adding more fuel to the fire. “I think the best thing that anyone ever did for RedState was Perry announcing there.”

No kidding. The anti-Perry sentiment on a lot of these FR threads is quite vicious. But I thought it was Ron Paul supporters.

“It all began on Wednesday when Politico published”

...and there in lies the heart of the matter. The old divide and conquer strategy.

The answer is...put them on the same ticket.

No....it’s corrupt Erickson:

In the leaked email, Erickson explained to Radtke that “my bosses are huge Allen friends,” and thus he would have to be “delicate” when Radtke made the rounds at his RedState convention in mid-August in Charleston, S.C. — the venue where Perry officially announced his presidential candidacy.

Later on Wednesday, Erickson took to RedState.com to defend his editorial independence and to disparage Radtke’s viability as a candidate, heavily criticizing her speaking performance at the RedState convention, which he said garnered horrible reviews from attendees (Erickson was not present). “Jamie Radtke is not a victim,” he wrote. “She’s a candidate. And clearly a bad one at that.”

It’s hard to see that happening when Perry couldn’t even control his jealousy over Palin being at center stage an that one Governor’s event, forget now what it was, but he made this big, childish scene over her getting more attention than him. No, I don’t see them sharing the ticket. That’s also one of the reasons I don’t like him for Prez. Immaturity like that we can do without in the highest office in the land.

I would love to see them on the same ticket. I am a Palin supporter but surprise: I like Bachmann and Perry too. Though to be honest Bachmann lost some credibility with her strange behavior lately.

It’s just like we’ve been saying here on FR: Rick Perry, RedState.com, the editor of RedState Erick Erickson, HotAir, Cincinatus’ Wife, and all the Perry supporters on FR are all Establishment Republicans.

We don’t want anything to do with them.

If you are an Establishment Republican who wants business as usual in Washington D.C., if you want politics as usual (e.g. the Sarah Palin bashing by Erick Erickson, RedState, HotAir, and Perry supporters on FR), and if you want a repackaged version of George Bush, then go ahead and support Rick Perry.

If you are sympathetic to the Tea Party and its goals, then please join us in rejecting Rick Perry.

Help us fight the establishment candidates: Obama, Perry and Romney. Don’t let them fool you. They are all the same.

Hmmm...didn’t hear about the temper tantrum. Haven’t seen him a WHOLE lot, but I thought he was more mature than the crier in chief, at least.

Well, well. It didn’t take long from the start of this thread for an anti-Perry attacker to weigh in.

"The old divide and conquer strategy."

C'mon, spare us the drama.

"Divide 'n' Conquer" only works in the general election, it has no effect in Primaries. Though you might not be among them, there are those who will pretend that a well-contested Primary is a "bad thing" because it "divides the electorate."

Baloney.

Most of those who cry wolf in this manner are just people who know that their particular choice of candidate likely will not survive a hotly contested Primary, so they try to convince everyone that fewer choices are better.

Let's just say it plain, okay?

Palin will run, whether she announces on Sept 23 or Sept 28. When she runs, Perry, Romney, Santorum, etc., all wind up shrivelling on the vine and disappearing, either quickly or not quite so quickly.

When Palin wins the GOP nod, we all will support her instead of staying home or voting for O'Bunghole.

There, wasn't that much easier than all this phony, hokey hystrionic hormonal handwringing bullsnot?

Exactly, divide and conquer. How stupid are the people here and on other Conservative venues ro violate Reagan’s prime directive, “never speak ill of another Republican” (paraphrase)

See my other post to you?

It is a question of character.

If Palin gets in she is going to destroy him on this issue alone.

Apparently Reagan must have been stupid as well, according to your standards:

Reagan followed this "commandment" during the first five primaries during the 1976 Republican primary against incumbent Gerald Ford, all of which he lost. He abandoned this approach in the North Carolina Primary and beat Ford 52-46, regaining momentum and winning a majority of delegates chosen after that date. Some analysts credit Reagan's attacks as seriously weakening Ford in his contest with his successor, Jimmy Carter.[1]

Nice try but no cigar. Perry's not my candidate. Tim Pawlenty was, and I haven't switched to anyone else yet. I'm just surprised by the viciousness unleashed on every thread about Perry - accusing him of being gay, being a dem, being anti-American, etc., and now, being childish and petty.

Nope, Perry's handlers have already said they will not be on the same ticket. You we all know their word is as good as gol.

Never mind.
