Doesn’t California have earthquakes? And socialism? I’ll stay in Phoenix, Arizona. A bit hot but no earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, volcanoes.

Good luck with that one!

Had that several years ago when daughter was going to evacuate Corpus and go to her brother’s up the country. Storm changed directions and was headed much further north. Sil called and asked if I’d please call her and try to explain the storm was going more his way than ours.

It took a while, but I finally got the point across.

Thanks for the thread. I am about 1-1/2 hr from the coast, in Richmond VA. We are preparing for an experience similar to the one of 2003...power outages, no water or gasoline, etc. We had two weeks without power then. Trees and debris were everywhere, power lines down all over and it took the employees an exhaustive effort to repair the lines. I think this time will be even worse since the hurricane is so large and so much of the East Coast will be affected. We must all get ready to endure hardships for quite a while. So get prepared!

My son works for the power company and employees are going on "storm duty" starting today. Please remember, if you call the power company to report an outage, or ask when you can expect power returned...be polite.

The power company employees who handle those calls suffered quite a bit of stress during the last hurricane that hit this area. Many callers were obusive and impatient and gave the Customer Service people a really tough time, cursing and screaming at them. Remember...When they are on storm duty they often work around the clock with few breaks; many do not go home and even sleep there or in motels nearby. Many stayed there while their families endured problems at home without them. They are a dedicated bunch, there to help and serve the public, so they should be appreciated...not mistreated.

Checking in. We are supposed to be having our pre-Labor Day party tomorrow. VOC also just put up a drive in theater in the back yard. I don’t think the movie is going to happen.

We are directly in it’s path here in coastal Carolina. Please pray. I’m worried. The rain seems to have started now. I’ll try to post updates.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be heading for someplace inland. You don't want to be caught in a traffic jam like Rita or Ike created in Texas.

Where is she in NYC? Is she in lower Manhattan (it’s called LOW for a reason!) or along the beaches of Brooklyn and Queens? Otherwise, she’ll probably be OK. We had a brief discussion whether to evacuate to our apartment in Murray Hill but have been told by the police that we are in such high ground that we shouldn’t worry. So we’re staying put for now.

Try not to get too upset!

You then corrected your thread and put in the correct map

Ummm...No. I didn't change anything in the thread. Clean your own browser cache. Get a clue, then take this discussion off the thread. Now.

Wise words,PennsyvaniaMom. I am from the ‘Burgh and have relatives still living there. I had no idea about the flooding of last week you described. I know that area well and cannot imagine nine feet of water on Washington Blvd. Goodness.

Aww rats, the Hurricane visible loop link seems to show a slight veer to the west.

Yeah, I noticed that, too: it may be just a quick jog, but the more important point is that it's STILL not turning at all toward the east of due north. The longer it take, the more of Emerald Isle is in jeopardy.

Well done, NautiNurse! Good links and info. I’m out in Colorado, but I have close friends in Hampstead, MD, and I’ll be following the news on Irene.

To all mid-Atlantic-coast and New England FReepers, good luck!

Ummm, yeah it was wrong. I clicked on your thread right after you posted it. There’s nothing wrong the cache. Don’t try to make me look bad because of your own failings.

The map was wrong. It’s OK if you don’t want to admit it.

Don’t like what I’m saying? Report me then.
