And your point is?

In most areas of the country, the horse has left the barn. We can argue ad infinitum about why, but a head-on attack on illegal immigration is viewed by many Hispanics as an attack on Hispanics. A Lou Barletta-style crusade in Texas would have resulted in an electoral massacre favoring Texas Democrats. This is why Perry (and the Texas GOP) treads lightly on the issue. (Some of it is also historical animosity over the way Anglos crapped all over the Tejanos re property rights after they had helped eject the Mexican army from Texas soil. As with many such historical animosities, this ought to be water under the bridge, but it is a wound that continues to fester, and is something that can affect elections, given the wrong GOP candidate).

Thanks txrangerette for pointing out the truth.

My husband is hispanic and his ancestors fought for the Independence of Texas. Remember the Alamo!

Texas WAS Mexico at one time. And there are many many Texans who are hispanic that their ancestry goes back to when Texas was Mexico.

The Hispanic Population of Texas is 9,151,000. (almost 40%)
The population of Texas is a little over 25 million.

Native-Born Hispanics in Texas are 69% of the 9+ million.

Foreign Born Hispanic are 31% of the 9+ million.

I have traced my husbands ancestry back to Spanish Settlers.

Now don’t even get me started on this stuff because I’m Native American Indian.

I do understand people upset about the illegal immigration and agree that it is out of hand. The borders have to be secured.

The Native Texas Hispanics are upset just as much as everyone else is.

But it is not Texas fault, it is not Perry’s fault but is completely the fault of the Federal Government. One of the few jobs they constitutionally are required to do - and they will not.

I believe they are talking about American Hispanics in this article - not illegals.

It’s no different than saying Perry is Good for Blacks or Perry is good for Women etc...

Do you people have the slightest clue how insane you look? Calling people racists and bigots is what the left does to anybody who dares disagree with them. I wouldn’t expect that here. but then again, rick perry never ran for president before. In my wildest disagreements with anyone here EVER, I would never even consider saying such a thing to a fellow Freeper. Not for anything.
It’s about as low as you can go and not be underneath something.

Do have the decency to point out the supposed “lie” if you are going to engage in personal attacks.

Palin is going to wipe the floor with Ricardo but why bring her up in this thread?

This thread is about a “democrat just turned republican” who supports amnesty, praising Ricardo Perry.

Just more proof that Ricardo is bush2 when it comes to amnesty.

I understand many of you bush2 supporters ALSO support amnesty. Are you one of them?

See, that is where this whole thingjumpedthe track. I understnd TEXAS. But the entire US is NOT Texas. If rick perry had to walk on eggshells in TEXAS, that is one thing.
We all saw what bush tried to do because of that same influence. It’s like Stockholm syndtome.

“Why should people who have nothing to do with our people and land be allowed to simply walk in and take over? Why should we be compelled to accept their rule?”

Hey, hey, you keep up that kind of talk and people are going to call you a racist! Not that you ARE a racist—it’s just that if you assert that the U.S. should maintain its sovereignty or that Perry is in any way less than perfect in his border non-policy, you are a racist, at least, to those who support him. Those would be the same faux conservatives who were supporting Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, heck, anyone left of center hiding out as a Republican.

I’m sure the rebuttal will be something like “But Perry cares about the border this year!” He’s been so darn concerned about illegal immigration prior to this year, he laid down the red carpet for illegals’ kids, and of course, he didn’t seem at all bothered about sanctuary cities for the whole of his term prior to 2011 (Austin has been a sanctuary city since 1997). Not that he was particularly bothered even then, until conservatives made clear their displeasure about his inaction and pushed it through the House, so that he had to act or be embarrassed by his complete indifference to illegals in Texas.

Thanks TexMom. This Hispanic and Muslim based Perry bashing drives me nuts, and I’m not even on the Perry bandwagon.

There are plenty of LEGAL Hispanics as you so rightfully point out and Muslims have just as much right to practice their religion as any other American. Rick Perry is the governor of a very large and diverse state and every Texan is his constituent, not just the white Christians.

Hey, if he's "Bush2"...sold! I'll take him.

And you're a liar because he most certainly does not support amnesty. He supports turning legal immigrants and other hispanics into happy, voting Republicans instead of America-hating Democrats.

Only liars lie. And only people who cannot argue truth, fall back on lies. You lied. You're a liar. And even worse, you use Democrat lies. That's really icky.

In the future I will remind you and your fellow spammers to stick to the headline subject. I didn't realize you guys were so sensitive to thread protocols. Liar (sorry, I had one left over).

And there ya have it.

It's all about white people bashing illegal aliens and Muslims.

If you're against Perry, you're simply a racist!

Have you become unhinged?

You got questions for Palin ask her yourself.
This thread isn’t about her. It’s about your amnesty loving, big government, slush fund running, boy Perry.

You can’t defend his policies so you try and attack Palin?

Others on this thread agree with me yet are not at all for Palin, what does that tell you?

As to your only relevant point: Bush almost pushed it through, we won by the skin of our teeth.I’m not willing to take that chance again. That’s why Perry will never get my vote in the primary. It’s time for a Tea Party Patriot who will stop the cycle of corruption and spending and debt.

Should Palin decline (she won’t) I will look for someone else who fits that description. Her endorsement would have no effect on me though it is highly unlikely she would endorse bush2 anyway.

Your frustration is showing. It’s ugly but expected.

Hey thanks for endorsing the idea that Perry is Bush2!

That proves to the rest of the people reading this thread that you are indeed looking for a big government republican who will expand entitlements, pass amnesty, jack up spending and debt, and refer to his base as “xenophobes”.

I suspected as much but now we know for sure.

Thanks to txrangerette and others who speak the truth.

My husband is an American Hispanic Texan who’s ancestry I have traced back to the Spanish Setters.

Many people apparently don’t understand that Texas used to be Mexico before we won our independence.

Many Texas Hispanics ancestors fought for Texas Independence
Remember the Alamo!

For those who don’t know or understand the demographics of Texas...here’s some facts...

There are 9,151,000 Hispanics in Texas.

That is roughly 40% of all Texans.

Of that 40% or 9,151,000:
Native Born Hispanics = roughly 70% of that 9,151,000.
Foreign Born Hispanics = roughly 30% of the 9,151,000.

American Texan Hispanics don’t like illegals coming over from Mexico anymore than anyone else.

Please don’t lump all Hispanics as being illegals or non American.

And don’t even get me started on this subject because I am Native American Indian.

I believe the author of the original post was speaking of American Hispanics not illegals. It would be no different than saying Perry is Good for Blacks or Perry is Good for Women..etc...

I don’t like illegals coming into our country.

But you cannot blame Texas, Arizona, New Mexico or California. And you cannot blame Perry.

If you want to put the blame for illegal immigration squarely at the feet of where it belongs - blame the United States Federal Government of who it is one of the few constitutional responsibilities that it has and refuses to do it’s job.
