Things I love about Perry:

1. His passion and willingness to take the fight to Obama
2. His executive level experience
3. His stance on 2A
4. His stance on right to life issues

Things I seriously question about Perry:

1. His stance on illegals
2. His past crony capitalism (especially Gardasil)
3. The possibility he is actually a squishy conservative on the order of GWB.

To me, the biggest question mark is #3. If he is not a true conservative, if elected he could do irreparable harm to our cause.

At this point, I like more about him than I dislike, but I am proceeding cautiously. If I had to vote today, it would be for Bachmann. It is close though, and it could change -- especially if Sarah gets in the race.

I share your concern on the illegal issue. He just has not shown consistency over his stewardship in Texas. Therefore, I am a Herman Cain supporter. This is his platform taken from his website:

Fix the Immigration Problems

America is an exceptional nation. We are also a prosperous nation because of our liberties and our free market system. That’s why people from all over the world want to come to America to create better lives for themselves and their families, because we are truly the land of opportunity.

Americans have embraced their role as the world’s premier “melting pot,” welcoming immigrants from every corner of the planet. We readily learn about other cultures, customs and beliefs. We appreciate those who are willing to come to this country and make America a more vibrant and enriched place.

Americans do resent, however, the willingness of some to circumvent our laws and enter our nation illegally. While many, if not most, illegal immigrants are peaceful people simply seeking to provide for their families, some are not. In fact, some are quite dangerous, jeopardizing the safety and well-being of American citizens.

Illegal immigration has only exacerbated illegal activity, such as the horrendous crimes of drug smuggling and human trafficking. Illegal immigrants who are repeat offenders are harder to track, making it difficult for law enforcement to prevent crime. Further, weak borders have caused a compounding problem of terrorists assimilating with illegal immigrants, crossing the border with them and entering the U.S.

Illegal immigration also puts a tremendous strain on America’s entitlement and health care systems. Illegal immigrants are typically uninsured and cannot afford to pay for their medical care, driving up costs for all Americans, even those actually insured. In fact, several hospitals in the U.S. have declared bankruptcy as a result of the costs of caring for illegal immigrants.

We must secure our borders, enforce our laws and promote the existing path to citizenship. Protecting our nation’s sovereignty should be a paramount concern of those elected to lead us, not an afterthought or a reaction once the problem becomes even worse. Further, taking a stand on the issue does not mean one lacks compassion, but instead, that one respects the rule of law and the importance of not becoming a lawless nation.

He is saying that if my American-born son in Ohio wanted to attend U Texas, he would have to pay more and accept second place to any illegal alien scumbag who happened to seek to do the same.

It's not quite that simple. If your son had been living and working full time in Texas for one year when he applied, for example, he would get the lower tuition rate. But if Texas can't afford to allow all US citizens from other states to pay lower tuition, how can it afford those rates for illegals?

But I don't believe that illegals should even be admitted to Texas schools at all. Millions of students all over the world compete fiercely for the right to study here legally, and the illegals occupy positions they can't, and pay lower tuition than the legal students would pay, unless they were already here.

A "dream act" in one of amnesty's feet in the door, 2 others being "family unification" and anchor babies. This is a serious negative for Perry, although billing the Feds for illegal prisoners is a good thing.

Actual Jim Robinson Quote:

"The presidential race is heating up. We now have conservatives Bachmann and Cain officially in the race fending off RINO Romney; and Palin and Perry could possibly jump in. My hopes are with Palin, but if she decides not to run I could be happy with Bachmann or Cain. Also, if Palin does not run but Perry does, he'd probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, Palin, Bachmann, Cain or even Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare!"

So go ahead - vote Ron Paul. In the mean time Perry is a reasonable candidate for reasonable people.

Fascinating how, for want of one peripheral issue, and a poorly understood one at that - the Texas response to illegal immigration - some so-called conservatives are willing to scuttle the 2012 campaign and leave Obama in charge. One wonders how much comfort one will get from one's own ideological purity in some future liberal re-education camp.

The choice is not between someone with a few warts and someone without because the latter does not exist; the choice is between someone who has a few warts and someone who has syphilis (or whatever else happens to be your favorite STD). Perry has his share of warts, but he doesn't have Romneycare syphilis.

Illegals should not be going to college here at all, let alone getting reduced tuition.

You better add to that list his getting schools to teach how good Muslims are.

Only if you agree that schools should teach how good Muslims are across the US as he did in Texas.
