Ready or not here she comes.

New Yorkers are scrambling for last minute provisions today as Hurricane Irene draws closer to the city. The forceful storm — a Category 1 with ferocious 85 mph winds — is expected to wallop the city by 4 a.m. tomorrow.

-snip-

"How can I get out of Coney Island?" said Abe Feinstein, 82, from an apartment with view of the boardwalk. "What am I going to do? Run with this walker?"

Bloomberg is insane. He’s shut down the subway and buses (today!).

I’m reminded of the Y2k nonsense.

I am directing every NYer to hereby not urinate until we, here at my command post, deem is safe for everyone to urinate. The city can ill afford the 2 million gallons per day it takes to flush NY city's toilets, and you will be breaking the law if you do not comply. Again, no urination. We will inform the citizenry when it is safe to do so.

I wonder if he will be able to buy another election?

With all of the flash mobs we’ve seen lately, this is like a flash mob holiday weekend.

This storm isn’t near what it looked to be. It reached landfall early and will be a TS up the coast. NYC needs to back off the hype now. My main concern for the coast was fallen trees.

Here in NJ, we heard that Rowan University's dorm rooms are now filled with African-Americans who swarmed the place after it was announced on the radio that classes had been postponed, and that all dorms were open as shelters. Hoards of people have showed up, parked themselves into the dorms, and are demanding "free" stuff, shouting for "free" food, "free" assistance, etc.

No joke.

Rowan's Glassboro campus reaches capacity for Irene evacuees

Gov. Cuomo yesterday said Obama had approved his request for an emergency declaration for New York that will allow federal assistance to flow into the state.

Now we provide money for something that might happen, before it happens.

I really wonder how our forefathers survived these storms, without today's modern forecasting and politicians taking care of us. It is so absurd to shut down public transportation and electricity and order people to leave their houses. How can you leave if you don't have a car and all public transportation is shut down. It really is scary to consider that this is what they want for all of us. Dependence on public transportation that the government can shut down for any reason. I am more scared of out of control government than I have ever been of a storm.

I'd really like to see Guiliani run for governor. He has some common sense....

Too many things against him? Maybe...but he's better than any Dem.

Yo, Abe, pick up the phone and call family and friends. You leave the exact same way as you got there, only reverse the process. As if he never leaves his apartment for groceries, the bank or for his doctor appointments. Come on, already. He reminds me of the woman on the bridge in NO who complained the water bottle they gave her wasn’t cold enough.

Lines stretching out into the streets right now on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to shop at the Food Emporium.

Store security is keeping people from entering the store because it’s too crowded inside.

And the grocery store workers who don’t live in Manhattan can’t go home now that Bloomberg shut down mass transit.
