American media superstar Glenn Beck's visit to Israel this week was a revealing and remarkable event. It revealed what it takes to be a friend of Israel. And it revealed the causes of Israel's difficulty in telling its enemies from its friends.
Many world leaders, opinion shapers and other notables profess enduring friendship with Israel. From Washington to London, Paris to Spain, policymakers and other luminaries preface all their remarks to Jewish audiences with such statements. Once their declarations are complete and often without taking a breath they proceed to denounce Israel's policies and deny its basic rights.
US President Barack Obama exemplifies this practice. Obama always begins his statements on Israel by proclaiming his enduring friendship for Israel. Then he tells us to deny Jewish property rights, accept indefensible borders, or desist from defending ourselves from aggression.
The Israeli Left habitually embraces self-proclaimed friends like Obama. Often leftist leaders encourage such friends to harm Israel in the name of helping it. For instance, in 2007, speaking to then secretary of state Condoleezza Rice who had a habit of comparing her friend Israel to the Jim Crow south then Ha'aretz editor David Landau asked her to "rape" the Jewish state. Opposition leader Tzipi Livni recently encouraged Obama to increase pressure on Israel.

I stand with Israel.
Our left is just hungry for power; the left in Israel is suicidal.
Doesn’t most of the funding for Israel’s leftist groups come from France..

Israel shouldn’t feel alone when it comes to how Mr Obama addresses them, “WE THE PEOPLE” of the United States of America, receive no better. We could just as easily change the word Israel, to USA, and the intent would be the same. Perhaps we are all equal in the eyes of the one, but some are more equal than others.
it’s like the nyt in the 1930’s, condoning stalin’s soviet union,
while the real atrocities went unreported.
The sandmaggots had poured hundreds of thousands of arabs from surrounding "countries" each year for a decade to establish a claim of ownership in what became Israel, and nobody noticed. In fact, the official British administrators has as much as admitted that their census records were biased against Jews, and in favor of muslims.
Oil, even back then, was a powerful motivator for a dying colonial superpower.
Why did it take 60 years to "discover" the obvious? That Israel's current borders are indefensible?
A small country was created that was infested by cockroaches. Over four generations, the cockroach population exploded, with actual help from mindless do-gooders in the Western world, the main focus of terrorism and mayhem. Israel made the desert bloom and created a creative culture contributing to the civilized world far out of proportion to their numbers. A vibrant creative society, constantly under the threat of being overwhelmed by the cockroaches.
So whom does the clueless western societies attack? No, not the useless destructive cockroaches, but the creators; the builders, the only force shedding light on the infestation.

Yup.
I agree and I also support Israel in their defense of their country. If someone shoots rockets into my back yard, I WILL return fire in greater volumne than they fired. Israel should do the same thing.
And Massachusetts.
Much of the intellectual post war left who became the kibbutzim emigrated from France. Their anti-god (they wont even say his name) anti-bourgeoisie philosophy is still prevalent, especially in the north. They were the children of well healed French families, communist all, and their money still flows like water to Israel’s leftist, pro arab groups. Funding things like the Goldstone report for example. Total lies and propaganda and coming from French funding.
