Take it to the bank...although talented....Powell would have retired as a Major or Lt. Col at best if he had been a white officer. He hit the white guilt syndrome just right and being the best and brightest of the black officers...ZOOM up he went.....all the way to being a 4 star general and eventually the Sec of State....where the “Peter Principle” finally ate his lunch. Now he has turned into just another nagger who complains of his plight.

Not buying it. If that was her real fear he wouldn’t have been Secretary of State. He was exposed almost as much as a President. And would’t he have been 4th in line to become President? He could not have accepted that position without accepting the responsibility of succession of the Presidency upon a crisis. However, I don’t believe the public vetting process is as involved for Secretary of State.

Alma Powell's idea that Colin would be assassinated speaks to her ignorance and prejudice of America. Did she also say she has never been proud of her country?

A barely American black guy ran with an African name and won and he's gonna be ok. That response from Alma disgusts me and shows Colin was a fake.

I would select just one glittering gem; BESIDES voting for Zero! When Powell and Armitage hid under their desks and left Skooter Libby take the rap for the Valerie Plame faux catastrophe, he forever sealed his reputation as a snivelling turncoat cowardly creep!

Also Alma Powell is a lifelong Democrat, and Colin was masquerading as a Republican back then.

I totally agree with your comment regarding Powell allowing Libby to take the rap for Armitage’s action. I am sure Cheney’s opinion of Powell was also influenced by the fact that that they tried to pin the Plame affair on him. At a minimum, an honorable Sec. State would have informed the President which he admitted he did not.

I am so glad this phony’s wife talked him out of running for president. There was a time that the patriotic right was still under the illusion that Colin Powell was one of us, and would have backed him to the hilt.

We would have wound up with an Obama in Republican’s clothing.

I, for one, never worshipped at the feet of Powell or Rice. I did think it took some courage for Watts.

He deserves our support . It’s the least we can do . Give him a decent retirement and help defer some of his med bills .

I'm more than happy to buy Cheney's book, but not for that reason. That man is set for life, and in no need of charitable contributions.

To be fair, no matter the color or gender, every ‘conservative of the moment’ eventually gets torn to shreds here at FR.

Except Sarah Palin, of course.

Yes, of course. NO one EVER makes untoward or mean comments about Sarah Palin on Free Republic. (rolls eyes...)

It is strange, in 2006 he gave money to George Allen in his Senate re-election bid and actually gave money in 2007 to John McCain for President.

yes...but Watts makes Bush II look articulate as Blackstone and he went wobbly on Obama

Minorities no matter how we trump them hoping they will be in the same boat and disregard skin always come back to it...if pressed.

Look at Rubio...whom we like but then watch his lips move on the Arizona Immigration law.

Every race in this nation is self aware but conservative whites are supposed to look away.

I don’t do it and have not for decades even though I was raised in a moderate on civil rights family.

I think Tom Sowell is ok...Clarence has only disappointed me on the cross lighting decision. Jesse Peterson..not bad. Niger Innis...decent guy. Cain and West...not bad so far. That Blackwell fellow and that new big black guy from I think South Carolina sounds ok...

I can mine for fellow fox hole blacks but they are scarce.

I just see the forum sometimes act so stupid over this..usually from folks who rarely have contact with such.

Powell is a lying scumbag. Hasn’t he heard about old soldiers fading away?
Fade away already, Powell.

Powell and Rice BOTH had the Bushes and their power and influence in the palm of their hands...Watts did not, that's why I cut him some slack. PLUS Watts got ELECTED....the AA's didn't....they got in on the Bushe;s coattails.

I remember a black family when I was little going to the Catholic Church and my dad telling me that they were OSTRACIZED by their family because they were Catholic and not Baptist, but the family were good Catholics.....that should some real steel.

Powell is an affirmative action appointment who has demonstrated poor judgement since visible to the public. Of course, lately he supported Obama. Who cares what this cheap suit has to say?
