AUSTIN - Along with making deep cuts in the state's budget, Texas lawmakers this year passed bills cracking down on drunk drivers and making it more difficult for the government to take private property.

Other new laws ease up on regulations for farmers' market products and allow for catching catfish with one's hands, a technique known as "noodling."

Much of the legislation takes effect on Thursday, the first day of Texas' fiscal year.

Another law makes it legal to fish for catfish with your bare hands, known as noodling.

Begs a question -- why was it ever banned in the first place?

This falls under the category of “stupid laws”.

Ok

I did not know about the cottage food law.

I just might start up a small business out of my home!

Baked goods, jams, jellies.

Shoot, I can do that.

Texas has had an open container law for several years now.

No alcohol beverage open containers.

Correction:

Texas has had an open container law for several years now.

No alcohol beverage open containers (in your vehicle).

Party buses and limos are exempt.

Why did they make it illegal in the first place?

‘Cause hard-working, beer-drinking white guys like to do it on weekends, that’s why.

It is stupid that they had to make a law for it! It isn’t stupid as a way to catch fish (just weird). LOL

Much of the legislation takes effect on Thursday, the first day of Texas' fiscal year.

Including that I can start wearing a concealed weapon to work and lock it in the truck on the employer's property (parking lot) which is otherwise "posted" property.

Yes you can have a six-pack, but it has long been against the law for any open container.
