Oprah Winfrey, TV’s greatest hit-maker, is counting on Rosie O’Donnell to save her struggling cable network.

OWN -- which launched New Year’s Day to un-Oprah-like ratings -- has already burned through more than $150 million in start-up money without producing a single hit show.

“There is pressure,” says Debra Birnbaum, editor-in-chief of TV Guide magazine, “because clearly this is what OWN is putting all of its emphasis on for the new season.

“They have to figure out a way to get eyeballs to that network.”

Can the stand-up comic -- who will broadcast from Oprah’s old Chicago studio beginning in early October -- do for OWN what, say, “South Park” did for Comedy Central or “Queer Eye”for Bravo?

Clearly a plan for success. What could go wrong?

Please help me get back from the edge of my seat.
Aren’t comedians supposed to be funny?

A lot cheaper than $150 million and even more effective.

Adding Rosie to thatloser network is like tossing a skunk into a crowd.

Just curious...Did Orca Winfrey put any of her own money into her OWN network? Blowing $150 million in less than 9 months - she's aspiring to be another Obama!

Yeah. Counting on a fat, foul-mouthed, ignorant, ugly lesbian troll to bail out your flailing network is a sure recipe for success.

Put your eggs in that basket and she’ll make a cheese omelet out of them.

[counting on Rosie O’Donnell...]

Yeah, that’ll work, she is so popular, it can’t fail. /s

"Maybe Americas women are NOT as dumb as they look.."

I know a few that are....A few of my wife's friends say they are conservative, and say some things that would make you think at times they are, but they also used to talk about what happenned on Oprah and the View.

To me, those shows are about as anti-conservative as you can get.

The article does not state where the 150M originated. Was it from the (failed) stimulus? Just asking.

Oprah: My network is struggling. What I need to save it is a fat, ugly, boorish dyke with the personality of a Tasmanian Devil. Yeah, that's the formula for success.

The 2 uber-liberals deserve each other. Both are a waste of fresh air.

How desperate do you have to be to turn to Rosie O'Donnell to bail you out? LOL!

A big problem they have is OWN was placed on the higher tiers of cable systems. Fewer people subscribe to these more expensive services so a big portion of the cable audience who would watch if they could are just shut out.

Oprah previously had a different cable network, “Oxygen” aka “Oh”. It didn’t set the world on fire but I liked how she had it set up. It was sold to NBC who as they do with most of their properties made it unwatchable.

Rosie can’t stand being told what to do and Oprah can’t stand having employees not doing what they are told. At some point Rosie will go off her meds again and get in a fight with Oprah. She can’t help it. Then the actual entertainment begins.

Was it [$150M] from the (failed) stimulus? Just asking.

Didn't think of that, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I do remember that OWN is some sort of venture with Discovery Networks, with Discovery providing the bandwidth access formerly known as DiscoveryHealth.

I don't remember/know if they tossed any cash into the deal, but I got to believe they promoted it in-kind on other Discovery channels.

I vaguely recall seeing some sort of commercials for it.

OWN dumped the channel's first president (a friend of Oprah) last spring, after about four months of operation.

Can the stand-up comic . . . do for OWN what, say, “South Park” did for Comedy Central?

Rosie blew that "queen of nice" facade after she left her prior talk show. She let the mask slip and let everyone see the petty, nasty, raging Liberal lunatic underneath. Perhaps she could do a comedy routine of her "greatest" hits though--like telling her producer that she hopes her cancer spreads and she dies.

I thought this deserved repeating. ;-)

Kinda’ sounds like a drowning woman grabbing onto the hand of another drowning woman to save her and expecting a good outcome.
