Roosevelt is the only other president to earn more than one term with a terrible economy. Problem is, the country already holds the Democrat party and Obama himself responsible for their terrible policies of 2009 and 2010. That’s why the Democrat party was swept out of every level of office in all red and purple states. Only solid blue Dem strongholds did not switch dramatically to the right last year.

Beschloss did not intend to give political advice

B.S. Beschloss was giving his team a pep rally and providing political advice. Does he get any state subsidies? If so someone needs to investigate them and pull them.

See if I buy a Bescholss book again. Let them have their delusions that Obama is FDR or Reagan; it only adds to his immesurable ego. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Beware of Hussein.

The war chest will be gargantuan.

The media daily bows their knees to him.

The cult is big.

The unions are plotting to destroy dissent.

The urban base will cry "racism" and resort to violence.

The law enforcement wing of the executive branch will turn a blind eye to law violations.

Yes, he'll try to make Reagan and Roosevelt models in the public eye, but Hussein is also willing to spit upon liberties and the Constitution to force his agenda. (see: DeathCare).

Do NOT underestimate the desire of fascists to further their power grip.

FDR won his first term because of the onset of the Depression which he promised to resolve. He won his second because Huey Long was assassinated and because the Republicans ran an invisible candidate, Alf Landon. Then-despite a worsening socioeconomic picture that pushed this country closer to a socialist revolution than it ever has before or since-he won a third term largely by promising to ‘keep us out of that European war’. Then he won a fourth term largely by being a wartime president, against Wendell Willkie who was later beaten by his successor, Truman. FDR may be the greatest political chameleon this nation has ever produced.

I've noticed often that Obama tries to pattern himself after FDR.

FDR often blamed his predessesor, claimed reversing the economy was going to take time, and introduced a lot of Gov't programs which placed a drag on the economy.

Problem is...this is not the 40's. In FDR's time communism was still a fashionable "experiment". We look back on it now as a FAILED experiment over which Ronald Reagan led us to victory. Not to mention that Obama is certainly no FDR in personality. Obama is more like Boss Tweed.

It speaks volumes that this WH has to bring in a two-bit pop historian (Beschloss) to school them. For all their so-called "intellectual" reputation, they don't strike me as people who open a book too often.

Historian Michael Beschloss reportedly gave the team hope with his June presentation about Democrat Franklin Roosevelt and Republican Ronald Reagan, who both won re-election in tough economic times.

Huh?

FDR was reelected three times. In 1936 the economy seemed okay; in 1940 the economy was improving from the 1937 recession, but the bigger focus was the looming war; in 1944 we were in the middle of a war and the economy wasn't really an issue.

The recession during the early Reagan years ended in the Fall of 1982 and by 1984 the economy was on fire. Unemployment had dropped from nearly 11% to just over 7% and inflation had fallen from just over 10% to just over 3%. The only person complaining about the economy in 1984 was Mondale saying taxes weren't high enough.

“According to Time, Beschloss said the strategies the two presidents used were similar: they both made the case that the economy was improving and that their opponents would make things worse.”

Reagan was telling the truth. Roosevelt was lying. It worked for both of them. Maybe lying will work for Zero too.

Article leaves the human factor out of it. Obama very poor politician - too detached, too self-centered. Obama no Roosevelt, no Reagan.

The only way Obama wins reelection is if a McCain clone wins the GOP nomination.

What this historian doesn't seem to get is that Obama is not the smartest president ever, but he may be the luckiest man to be president.

Every single time Beschloss appears on tv he should be introduced as a consultant to the Obama campaign. Every. Single. Time.
