* Historian cites positive examples of Roosevelt, Reagan
* Persistent unemployment threatens Obama's re-election
(Reuters) - Aides to President Barack Obama held a secret strategy retreat where they listened to a history lesson from a presidential scholar about past presidents who could serve as models for Obama's re-election effort, Time magazine reported.
Historian Michael Beschloss reportedly gave the team hope with his June presentation about Democrat Franklin Roosevelt and Republican Ronald Reagan, who both won re-election in tough economic times.
According to Time, Beschloss said the strategies the two presidents used were similar: they both made the case that the economy was improving and that their opponents would make things worse.
"Beschloss did not intend to give political advice," the magazine said. "But that is just how his words were received. The president's aides, all but resigned to unemployment above 8 percent on Election Day, now see in Roosevelt and Reagan a plausible path to victory."

Gimmicks.
Roosevelt is the only other president to earn more than one term with a terrible economy. Problem is, the country already holds the Democrat party and Obama himself responsible for their terrible policies of 2009 and 2010. That’s why the Democrat party was swept out of every level of office in all red and purple states. Only solid blue Dem strongholds did not switch dramatically to the right last year.
Bitchloss has always been a dem/lib apologist.
B.S. Beschloss was giving his team a pep rally and providing political advice. Does he get any state subsidies? If so someone needs to investigate them and pull them.
See if I buy a Bescholss book again. Let them have their delusions that Obama is FDR or Reagan; it only adds to his immesurable ego. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Exactly... it’s all about strategy and not about any demonstrable leadership. I hope the historian mentioned the little tidbit of leadership as well.
Gimmicks + teleprompter = empty suit

Flash ahead to President Obama and this exchange between liberal historian Michael Beschloss and radio host Don Imus:
Mr. Beschloss: [Barack Obama] is a guy whose IQ is off the charts.
Mr.Imus: Well. What is his IQ?
Mr. Beschloss: Pardon?
Mr.Imus: What is his IQ?
Mr. Beschloss: Uh. I would say its probably - hes probably the smartest guy ever to become president.
Mr. Beschloss, like much of the left, clearly has no proof nor any shame.
That wasn't so back under FDR, nor even in Ronaldus Magnus' day.
Obama has now been vetted and found inadequate to the tasks set before him. No way he can dig himself out of that.
He's also managed to depreciate the value of a Harvard diploma about 85%!
Roosevelt had an easy election because someone assassinated Huey Long. FDR probably would have won, but Long would have been a tougher opponent than Landon. Long probably would have run a third-party campaign something like George Wallace’s in 1968. Except Long was more formidable than Wallace. I was watching old films and by 1935, Long had largely abandoned his stem-winding, “stump speaker style,” and was learning to talk to the cameras with considerable skill. In every respect, except personal background, he was Roosevelt’s equal.
I challenge Mr. Beschloss to give me one, just one example that would indicate Barack Obama is so damn intelligent. Just one. A clever rejoinder, a quick wit, an encyclopedic grasp of facts, an original vision, an ability to speak off the cuff with eloquence, a probing question that belies a supple mind - anything.
This must be satire, right?
The war chest will be gargantuan.
The media daily bows their knees to him.
The cult is big.
The unions are plotting to destroy dissent.
The urban base will cry "racism" and resort to violence.
The law enforcement wing of the executive branch will turn a blind eye to law violations.
Yes, he'll try to make Reagan and Roosevelt models in the public eye, but Hussein is also willing to spit upon liberties and the Constitution to force his agenda. (see: DeathCare).
Do NOT underestimate the desire of fascists to further their power grip.
Talk and more talk, all through the teleprompter.
Lofty rhetoric, written by others, doesn’t amount to anything.
FDR won his first term because of the onset of the Depression which he promised to resolve. He won his second because Huey Long was assassinated and because the Republicans ran an invisible candidate, Alf Landon. Then-despite a worsening socioeconomic picture that pushed this country closer to a socialist revolution than it ever has before or since-he won a third term largely by promising to ‘keep us out of that European war’. Then he won a fourth term largely by being a wartime president, against Wendell Willkie who was later beaten by his successor, Truman. FDR may be the greatest political chameleon this nation has ever produced.
LOL. Oh, you know the secret formula!
Considering that our Presidents have included men such as The Adamses, Jefferson, Lincoln, and TR, Beschloss is talking through his behind. Lincoln was not well-educated but he seems never to have doubted that he was the smartest man in the room, just as he was the the tallest, but apparently he took pains to disguise that. More than one visitor said that their impression was that of a New England farmer.
