BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now here's Shelby Steele, and you will recognize that you've heard much of this on this program, but I love this. It's in the Wall Street Journal, and as you know, every time Shelby Steele writes on this subject, I trumpet it; share it with you almost verbatim. He writes, " If I've heard it once, I've heard it a hundred times: President Obama is destroying the country. Some say this destructiveness is intended; most say it is inadvertent, an outgrowth of inexperience, ideological wrong-headedness and an oddly < character. Indeed, on the matter of Mr. Obama's character, today's left now sounds like the right of three years ago.

"They have begun to see through the man and are surprised at how little is there." That's Shelby Steele describing the American left. "Yet there is something more than inexperience or lack of character that defines this presidency: Mr. Obama came of age in a bubble of post-'60s liberalism that conditioned him to be an adversary of American exceptionalism. In this liberalism America's exceptional status in the world follows from a bargain with the devil -- an indulgence in militarism, racism, sexism, corporate greed, and environmental disregard as the means to a broad economic, military, and even cultural supremacy in the world. And therefore America's greatness is as much the fruit of evil as of a devotion to freedom."

This is so right on the money. It's just another way of saying Obama's got a chip on his shoulder because of the way he was educated: This country has gotten where it is via immoral acts, stealing the world's resources as our own, impoverishing people around the world. This is what he believes. "Mr. Obama did not explicitly run on an anti-exceptionalism platform. Yet once he was elected..."...

Shelby Steel wrote a brilliant piece right after the attacks on the Twin Towers...I have loved him ever since.

Wish I could share it, but, I don’t have the link anymore-—many of my computers have crashed, since.

Funny.....my sister (the lib) thinks I am a bigot-—she just doesn’t “get” that I abhor blacks that feel they are “entitled” to MY tax dollars when they don’t work. I feel the same about the whites that feel “entitled” when they don’t work.

Libs...can’t live with them.....

Thanks for the link. I tried it twice. My computer can crash with the Wall Street Journal. It did so with this OpEd twice before I checked Rush’s website for another story, i.e. the Justice Department wants to revive subprime loans or charge banks and lending institutins with discrimination against minorities.

I wouldn’t even try that tack with the sister. I’d just say “I look at him and the first thing that hits me is his utter incompetence, the first thing you see when looking at him is his skin color. You’re the racist, judging people on the the color of their skin and not the content of their character. And I don’t want to talk to racists right now”.

America seems to be facing a pivotal moment: Do we move ahead by advancing or by receding—by reaffirming the values that made us exceptional or by letting go of those values, so that a creeping mediocrity begins to spare us the burdens of greatness?

As a president, Barack Obama has been a force for mediocrity. He has banked more on the hopeless interventions of government than on the exceptionalism of the people. His greatest weakness as a president is a limp confidence in his countrymen.

Shelby Steele does NOT disappoint...
