Perry tells NH no to border fence

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.

The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

A vote for anyone other than the Republican nominee is a vote for Obama.

Of course I am aware of that, Sara - but I am having a real problem with this entitlement to illegal aliens - and burdens to citizens. Something really ‘dark’ is happening to our country (and has been for quite some time now.)

Why can’t the GOP find a candidate that is FOR the people?!

I’d like to know what Rick Perry thinks about those two Texan hunters who got shot at, while on Texas soil, by Mexican Federales.

Inquiring minds want to know.

It is a plurality of voters who have given Rick the lead in polls not the GOP establishment. Will you think differently when Sarah endorses Rick?

Adios Perry.

Im going to be honest here, a Border fence would indeed take a long time to build and at the end of the day it would not work.

It is not particular difficult to get over or around a stationary barrier. If we are going to deal with illegal aliens we got to make their life uncomfortable and unprofitable while there here.

This is a job best accomplished by our States who have both the legal means and the on the ground presence & know how to do so.

That being said, I’m not sure what Perry’s policy is.

Over or around? How about under? Plenty of smugglers dig elaborate and well-lit tunnels beneath the border.

If we are going to deal with illegal aliens we got to make their life uncomfortable and unprofitable while there here.

The battle must be fought on more than one front.

You have any idea how costly cutting ourselfs off from the Rio grand river with a border fence would be? It would be positively catastrophic for south west Texas economically.

Nobody would want to hunt there.

A border French is do able in New Mexico, Arizona, California, and indeed a few select parts of Texas. But for Much of the Texas Border its unthinkable.

Besides Perry is right:

“No, I don’t support a fence on the border,” he said. “The fact is, it’s 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso. Two things: How long you think it would take to build that? And then if you build a 30-foot wall from El Paso to Brownsville, the 35-foot ladder business gets real good.”

There ain’t no fence we can build that the Mexican’s can’t just as easily scale.

Theses folk already have to come prepared to trek miles and miles of barren wilderness which is mostly hostile desert to get here. (if their not prepared they will die, as many of em do.) No 30 foot fence is going to slow em down.

Its just going to costs us a lot of money, and provide a false sense of security. If we are going to attack the illegal immigration problem the battle is here in our States. We have to make it unprofitable and uncomfortable for the illegal aliens to reside here.

Let’s not be ridiculous. That will never happen. The only fair and sensible solution is the one outlined by Sarah.

See the map three cursor clicks down on page. The river makes the border all the length of Mexico.

Its just not possible.

The river is the border. Its not fenceable.

Tried to fence your southern border? Try putting a fence in the middle of a wild river.

I'm in the minority here, but “The Fence” is a terrible, statist idea. Not only will it be a big government boondoggle, the border is private property and many of the owners not only do not WANT the fence, but they own property on the other side.
Defense is a perfectly good reason for eminent domain and securing the country from invasion is one of the responsibilities of the federal government. You are putting a utopian ideology over the survival of the country and Constitution. Shameless.

We can be pretty dumb, but not quite dumb enough to care what a paid hack has to say about his man.

Perry is pure AstroTurf.

The Rio Grande, however, only flows through what can arguably be called desert for a relatively short distance. You've never been down here, have you?

What good does a fence do if nobody is there patrolling? We’ll wake up every morning to find holes in the fence, that end up costing taxpayers $20,000 sq/ft to fix.

Straw man garbage. Who said it shouldn't be patrolled?

And yes, I support Palin.

You are smarter than that. Rick “Al Gore supporter” Perry opposes every effort to stop illegals in America. He filed an amicus brief against Arizona. He likes cheap labor and subidies for illegal aliens.
