Fences? Yes, in our time the totalitarian aspect of fences was done by leftists.
I'm not willing to see an animal eco-system as large as South Western Texas decimated by being cut off from water when shooting a few dozen Mexicans can serve the same purpose as a fence.
Guess we're racist as well.
Yeah, because my posting history shows me to be so sensitive to racial issues.
But it's all pie in the sky. A government willing to build the fence would be willing to put thousands of guards on the border without the fence in the first place and then we wouldn't be having discussions about fences.
The problem is that every powerful institution in the US wants mass immigration here. The FED churns out papers in favor of it, the corporations, the politicians, the bureaucracy all want mass immigration. It's been this way since the first large wave of immigration since the 1840s.
The regular people have always been against it for the most part. They opposed the waves of Irish. They were ignored. They opposed the waves of Asians, they were heeded for a while then ignored. They were opposed to the waves of Southern and Eastern European immigration and they were ignored until 1924. Then the flood gates were opened in '65.
We've have 41 years total of sane immigration restriction in this country.
We have a deeper problem than fences. It's elite attitudes toward migration.
They build a fence one day, and the next year the state department will hand out another million B2 visitor visas. You'll wipe out the West Texas wildlife refuges and still get the Mexicans.
This country has never been good at nationalism.
