OAKLAND, Calif. -- Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong says he was kicked off of a Southwest Airlines flight Thursday night for wearing his pants too low.
I'm sure there are people who feel that way. For me, the 90s were the worst decade in popular music history. Next to nothing from that wasted decade sounds awesome these days, least of all Billy Joe faking a Brit accent through his nose to Green Day's ersatz punkisms.
That was the decade of my 20s, so there should be some sentimental value to some of it. But there's not. It all sounds vapid, self-absorbed and pretentious anymore. The only thing worse is early 2000s emo, which I hold the whiny alt-rockers of the 90s personally responsible for.
I guess he gets to walk the streets now... alone.
I agree. Outside of a few British bands, the 90s were a quality wasteland for so-called “alternative rock.” Eddie Vedder should be in prison.
Wow folks don’t be too harsh maybe I’m wrong. I think we got our answer to the Mooslim flying. Just have them wear saggy pants and poof they are off the plane. =)

GD till late 90's was real Punk. Heroin/success ruined them.
Funny because from my experience talking to people around my age (which I won’t give away, but I’m under 40) is that the 80s was the worst decade for music. Hair metal is widely viewed by them as an abomination.
That is funny, because the last thing I think of when I think of the 80s is hair metal. Never listened to it, it never attached itself to any memories of the period. It was more schtick than music.
Kind of like ska was in the 90s.
Oh, God.....hair metal. Music straight from Satan’s backside, if you ask me. Now for me, 80s metal? Iron Maiden. Well written, tight musical composition, and the lyrics were a cut above, dealing with themes such as the Battle of Britain (Aces High), fencing (The Duellist), a song inspired by the life of legendary Japanese swordmaster and author Miyamoto Mushashi (Flash of the Blade), and literature (To Tame A Land, coming from Dune, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner, from the poem by Coleridge, which inspired me to read that particular masterpiece).
And of course, Eddie was just cool as all get out. And Steve Harris on bass, Bruce Dickinson on vocal.....THAT was metal!
And in some fairness to Mr. Armstrong, at least he was flying a commercial airline, like a normal person. Just be sure to pull up your pants next time. Oh, and I liked GD in the 90s. Good tunes.
And let’s not forget Why Don’t You Get a Job by the Offspring and Pretty Fly for a White Guy.....two great pieces of sociocultural commentary IMHO.
Yeah, don’t you just love it when women of all sizes think they can put on what they see on some skinny minny model or celebrity? The skin tight, clingy tops make me cringe. Why would a woman want to show all of her rolls of fat?(And, BTW, I am a plus sized woman myself.)

I’m a plus size, also, and because of it, I do look at others. I’ve decided that some women just want to be ‘with it’ no matter what — or maybe they just don’t care. I was at a wedding a couple days ago, and was astounded at some of the short cocktail dresses worn with legs that belonged under pants or at least a midi skirt.
That sounds like a ‘meow’ comment, I know, but it seems as tho some just don’t have a clue. And it is not as tho they are just trying to make a statement, like the Green Day guy (who ever he is). They simple don’t see themselves as others see them, I guess.
Grunge emerged in the ‘90s actually as a backlash against the frivolous ‘80s metal, which was basically fluff lyrics about partying and getting tons of sex.
Man Bigg Red, Bigg Twinkie here & I hear you loud and clear. - I’m wearing a blue cotton muu-muu right now around the house. - A woman in my husband’s high school class (class of ‘61, so they’re 68) had a gastric bypass several months ago. Saw her at their reunion and she said she spent several weeks in the ICU after that surgery, got an infection and a paralyzed digestive system; said she almost died. - I’d told her a while back just to get herself a big ol’ muu-muu and get on out and relax and have fun.
EVERYBODY I’ve known who has had the surgery done had a bad experience with it. One woman finally died in her late fifties from the series of surgeries she had to have related to that initial gastric bypass. One of my distant cousins had it a few years ago; he looked like death warmed over and seemed a little spacey. Haven’t heard from him in the years between, so don’t know if he’s still alive.
I know some people have decent luck with that surgery, but those I’ve known have been in the unfortunate minority who didn’t. - A friend’s daughter was being pressured by the surgeon to get the surgery. I related the things I’ve seen to her and she’s at least taking more time to consider it. She is young and I told her I wasn’t trying to get into her business and wished her well if she decided to get the surgery. (My friend who had it done many years ago actually gained even MORE weight after she had it done - probably another 100 lbs.!)
So, I just try to dress decent and comfortable. Have been “overweight” long enough now that I no longer wish for the good old days when I weighed 118 lbs. Hit 40 and started menopause and now am 65 . Heck, at 65 I’m not about to risk my life to try to be skinny. I guess if it were an absolute necessity in order to live, I’d consider it, but I can’t imagine that would be likely.
I hear you, girlfriend. It’s as if they don’t own a mirror. You want to say, “Please cover that stuff up!”
(BTW, you and I freeped together a few times, most notably the night before the Bush Inaugural Ball of 2001. :)
Yeah, gastric bypass is risky business. I have met people who have had success with it, but, like you, I have also heard horror stories.
