Murky land deals mark Gov. Rick Perry's past [2010]

Three years after Gov. Rick Perry's biggest real estate score, questions persist about whether the governor benefited from favoritism, backroom dealing and influence-buying.

The Dallas Morning News found evidence that Perry's investment was enhanced by a series of professional courtesies and personal favors from friends, campaign donors and the head of a Texas family with a rich history of political power-brokering.

Together they may have enriched Perry by almost $500,000, according to an independent real estate appraisal commissioned by The News.

The governor's staff insists these were routine, legal deals that were properly handled. They point to a bank's appraisal, done when Perry sold his land in 2007, that said the buyer was paying Perry slightly less than market value.

Experts hired by The News dismissed that appraisal as "unsupported" and said it did not meet professional standards. County tax appraisals at the time also indicated that the governor was able to buy the land below market value and sell far above it.

The article was written long before Ricardo got into the race, so calling it a smear is just not credible

By that same logic you must be a Perry supporter.

If perry had 26,000 emails of his released and poured over by the press and obama's war room... do you think that he would be a candidate 72 hours after they finished looking through them all?

Oh really? It hasn’t even started yet.

This is the Dallas media. If this were 2012 this story would be front page on every city, town, little village and hamlet news paper across the entire country.

Don’t you think they are saving some of those 26,000 for later use?

And the facts continue to appear. Facts are NOT campaign smears.

I live outside Dallas and I can tell you that the Dallas Morning News is just another dying lib-rag like the Los Angeles Times. And this article is just another DMN attempt to help get uber-lib Bill White elected. The voters of Texas told the DMN to stuff it in the last election.

Obama Says He Regrets Land Deal With Fundraiser"Tony" Rezko ....>>>>In June 2005, in what Obama now describes as a "boneheaded" mistake, Obama and Rezko's wife bought adjacent properties on Chicago's South Side, closing the deals on the same day. Seven months later, wanting a bigger yard for his $1.65 million house, Obama bought a slice of the Rezko property for $104,500. ........

To Chicago political observers, it made sense that Rezko tried to get close to Obama. A Syrian-born businessman whose fortunes seemed to rise and fall with his latest deal, Rezko was known for cultivating politicians, including Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) and Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.).

Rezko created a real estate development company and operated dozens of Chinese eateries and pizza restaurants. After Blagojevich rode into office in 2002, Rezko emerged as a friend and close adviser. He recommended people for significant state jobs and, a federal grand jury charged, soon tried to shake down investment firms that wanted to do business with Illinois. <<<<....

Open lots are listing for 1.3 million.

Horseshoe Bay Homes For Sale.

Perry bought in 2001, and sold in 2007 during the last year of the housing boom, when the building market in Texas was at it's highest.

Shocking that the property actually appreciated in value and he made a profit? Nope.

Funny how the leftist DMN is now the paper of record on FR.

The Dummies tried to pull this stunt against a county Judge and it fell flat with a jury.

If they had anything they would have had him in court a long time ago.
More BS.

Anyone interested in the truth could get the original Houston Chronicle article and find out it was his life-long buddy who bought a piece of property, divided it and sold Perry part so they could have adjoining resort property. They were very close friends and their families spent a lot of time together.

Perry never developed his property and eventually sold it.

The Chronicle hates Perry and was trying their best to make the story into some sort of scandal. They even described selling property 7 years after you bought it as a “flip”.

Just a warning to those who have jumped uncritically on the Perry train(from a Texan who will support him if Palin doesn’t enter the race).

There is enough already on the record (some of it true and some of it not) that the media/Obama and Romney will use to try and discredit Perry in a big way. He has not been fully vetted yet by our side to just be handed the nomination.

That process needs to play itself out before we all jump on the Perry train. Just a word of caution.

And don’t forget to say “Harry Reid” in the same breath. Rezko, Obama, Reid — none of their corruption got and traction. Will it be the same for Perry?

Snicker...

“The article was written long before Ricardo got into the race, so calling it a smear is just not credible.”

But that is exactly what it is, a campaign smear article. It was a smear article for the last race he was in. He ran for Governor in 2010, remember. The MSM in Texas did not want him for Governor in 2010 anymore than they want him to be President in 2012.

You might want to update your picture. The vaccination mandate was rescinded in Texas, but it does look like it is going to happen in California. From what I understand the bill has been passed and is awaiting the Governor’s signature. I believe the California version will allow anybody over 12 to consent to it without asking parents. If you really care about this issue you may want to look into it. If you only care about bashing Perry, don’t bother.

Sold below market and then bought back by the business partner at an above market rate—that doesn’t have the sent of a Clinton/Obama/Biden RE deal to you?

Then I suggest you’re impervious to all exposures of Perry’s corruption, you’re so in the tank for him.
