The Rick Perry - ACORN connection explained: A primer for non-Texans
EnterStageRight ^ | Sept. 5, 2011 | Linda Prussen-Razzano

In 2005, the Texas State Legislature passed HB 1823, which allowed people with a Contract for Deed to refinance their mortgage and convert the Contract for Deed to a Deed of Trust. They were then able to get out from under the terms of the contract, transfer title to their name, and assume full responsibility for their property and their lives. There were a number of steps homeowners had to take to comply with the law, and they were obviously responsible to pay the mortgage, but it gave homeowners greater power over their property.

ACORN, which supported HB 1823, praised the Legislature and Governor Perry for passing it.

So when folks go around bashing Governor Perry for signing these bills just because ACORN supported one of them, it tells me they are all hat, no cattle, and a person to be pitied. They are obviously not a Texan.

“Several have actually stated that they prefer giving Obama another 4 years, rather than see Perry as president.

This 0bamaish strawman quote troubles me. Mind naming/pinging those screennames? “

I don’t keep lists — but if you keep your eyes open, I am sure you’ll run across a few.

You don’t know what you are talking about. ACORN was advocating for illegals along the border who were in “rent to own” contracts.

Perry signed the bill surrounded by ACORN to appeal to Hispanics/illegals, period.

The bill had NOTHING to do with the tornado either.

Yes we are talking of the executive office of the entire nation.

It is a governorship at the highest level

It’s the job of the FEDERAL government to secure the border or didn’t you know that? How come you are not complaining about Obama refusing to provide the National Guard troops Perry requested?

Perry is running for POTUS, not Governor of a State, and has just re-iterated his stance of being against a border fence, did you not know these facts?

Sorry, but more boots on the ground by itself will never fix the problem, it has never halted the flow of Illegal Immigrants.

Only using every "weapon" we can to fix this problem will fix it.

It will take boots on the ground, the usage of E-Verify to limite the ability of Illegals to get jobs, a Fence/Wall along the whole border, etc.

This is classic Pro-Amnesty nonsense stated by other Amnesty queens like McCain and GWB, but actually supporting those "weapons" that will actually be the most lacking is one thing Perry won't do.

According to the links from the link you gave, the bill passed the house by voice approval, with only ONE person registering a no vote. The Senate vote was 30-1.

SO this legislation was an essentially unanimously passed before Perry signed it.

I read the bills, and I read the article you posted. I see why the people at the link didn’t like the bill, but I don’t see the bill as being a bad thing. But more importantly, the entire state legislature was FOR the bill, there was no controversy recorded, and the Governor signed it.

So you admit Perry is a Bush clone on pandering to Mexico?

Good. Admitting you have a problem is always the first step.

Compare:

Illegals go where the jobs are

to

Just doing the jobs Americans won't do

Cheers!

I admire Sarah Palins record on rooting out corruption.
I just think she is to weak to win on the national stage at this time.

You can’t ping to or name them because you are lying.

You flat out made it up.

Disagree? prove it.

Palin called Perry a “true conservative”. Was she lying?

Governor Palin called Perry a "True Conservative" in 2009 when he was running for Governor, this is 2011.

Since Governor Palin has repeatedly said that if a true, limited government conservative was running that she could truly support, don't you think she would have already announced she was supporting Perry for President already?

I have lived on the border in all of the border states except New Mexico.

I think I am entitled to an opinion here.

Oh really? So now exposing Perry’s record for scrutiny is smearing. You’d better put on some teflon panties, hon, because this is nothing compared to what the MSM has in store.

What are you going to do if Sarah Palin doesn’t run...get skidmarks in your britches?

No, but you plagiarized that thought from me yesterday:

Leto, when she *does* declare, the PDS brigade and the Perrysites are going to crap their pants so hard, even their clothes hangers will have little skid marks.

Yes if you saw my comment at the end of my post I agree the rent-to-own hucksters deserve what they got with this bill. No sympathy from me.

The big picture is that Perry did the photo-op with ACORN to appeal to ACORN’s constituency: illegal aliens living along the TEX-MEX border.

Then I don't think you really have listened to Governor Palin, with that one speech on Saturday, if you truly had listened to it with an open mind, you would have come away knowing that not only was she the best Possible Candidate for POTUS, but given all of her history since 2008, that she is quite possibly the only candidate strong enough to win against the crap that will be thrown against the eventual GOP nominee.

Having read the bill, if Perry had fought it, I’m sure the same people would be here arguing that he fought it to help his cronies and lobbyist friend who owned these properties to protect their profits in exchange for their support.

It’s so easy to just pull arguments out of a hat. The Palin folks know this, because Sarah Palin was trashed like this relentlessly. They learned how it was done by the best, and now they are using what they learned to trash other conservatives, in the vain hope that by burning down the other candididates, their candidate (well, their possible candidate) might be the last one standing.

If Palin enters the race, I want her to win by being better at the nominating process than the other candidates, not because all her opponents were smeared by false and absurd charges to the point where they were non-viable. We want to get the best candidate, not the least-damaged one.

And how many times am I going to tell you Perry had 10 years to do something to stem the tide or illegals, and it hasn’t worked? Instead, he rewards them with in-state tuition. Stellar job, there.

You can believe anything you want to.

It is true and it’s not one, but several posters stated they prefer Obama.
