The Rick Perry - ACORN connection explained: A primer for non-Texans
EnterStageRight ^ | Sept. 5, 2011 | Linda Prussen-Razzano

In 2005, the Texas State Legislature passed HB 1823, which allowed people with a Contract for Deed to refinance their mortgage and convert the Contract for Deed to a Deed of Trust. They were then able to get out from under the terms of the contract, transfer title to their name, and assume full responsibility for their property and their lives. There were a number of steps homeowners had to take to comply with the law, and they were obviously responsible to pay the mortgage, but it gave homeowners greater power over their property.

ACORN, which supported HB 1823, praised the Legislature and Governor Perry for passing it.

So when folks go around bashing Governor Perry for signing these bills just because ACORN supported one of them, it tells me they are all hat, no cattle, and a person to be pitied. They are obviously not a Texan.

Since WHEN did selling telemedicine across our border, JUST LIKE WE SELL THE MANY THINGS across the border, become a bi-national medical plan.

Is selling freaking Cheerios to Mexican nationals a bi-national CHEERIOS plan?

WHEN, WHEN, ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING TO STOP, STOP, STOP carrying this bucket of horse manure and lies for the DEMOCRATS! They can’t seem to crank out their trash fast enough for REPUBLICANS to pick it up and publish it as the truth!

Good post, Clairity. For the fair-minded, the so-called “Perry-ACORN connection” is exposed for what it always was, a sham strawman argument.

Part of ACORN dealt with housing issues.

I assumed you understood my premise—that ACORN support implies there must be something else about the law that isn’t as nice as the parts that sound harmless.

Why this pretty much locks in those independent voters. Perry’s appeal is very wide.

And when are you going to realize that Perry is a RINO? Get used to the vetting, because Bachmann and Mittens are going to tear him apart with his ten year record of pandering to illegals and special interest groups.

A different view:

Thanks to excessive activism coupled with past abuses by unscrupulous investors, the 79th Texas Legislature has now made it much more difficult for investors in Texas to work within their entrepreneurial vocation.

Two laws which were recently passed have dealt a deadly blow to the use of popular lease-options. SB 629, authored by Sen. Eddie Lucio (D-Brownsville) and sponsored by Rep. Harold Dutton (D-Houston), and HB 1823, authored by Rep. Harold Dutton and sponsored by Sen. Eddie Lucio.

These laws were initially introduced as a means to protect low-income buyers and immigrants along the Texas-Mexico border as the practice of lease-options by unscrupulous builders and developers are what is traditionally blamed for the creation of ‘colonias’ (identifiable unincorporated areas located within 150 miles of the Texas-Mexico border that lack infrastructure and ‘decent’ housing), however; their effect on real estate investors extends far beyond the state’s border regions.

SB 629 and its companion HB 1823 both enter into simultaneous effect on September 1, 2005.

Rent to own is a huge rip off so not much sympathy from me. No reason for Perry to publicly give credit and by so doing credibility, to the despicable ACORN.

It appears Ricardo wanted to appeal to the illegals along the border that ACORN was mostly concerned with.

I don’t make a habit of jumping on threads for any of the candidates or non candidates to beat them up.

You can smell the fear from these Perry bashers.

Funny you disagree with Sarah Palin, who declared Perry to be a true conservative.

“Rick Perry is true to conservative principles even when others think the party needs to go a different direction. I like that about him: he doesn’t care which way the wind blows, he acts on his beliefs. That’s why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election,” Palin wrote.

Palin wrote that Perry “walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns - and you know how I feel about guns!”

Bachmann, Cain, Palin, DeMint, Ryan.

All better conservatives than Perry.

Yeah, I also disagreed with Palin when she endorsed McCain and called him a true conservative too.

I do not dislike Gov. Perry. As a non-native 54 year Texican I can also say I do not like Gov. Perry.
Agree on a great many points, mostly 10th amendment arguments,.. bothered by cronyism.

To live and breathe Texan is to understand.

Don’t complain. Don’t explain.

Elites and illegals in sheer numbers stain this legacy. I hold hope.

Do me a favor. Quit escaping your statist nightmares only to move here and tell me how we should do things!
Hesitate to tell those with whom you seek refuge how to conduct their affairs.

Rick Perry is the Governor of the United States weakest Governorship and has managed to not screw up too bad.

Try as he might, he hasn’t.

Won’t complain...Won’t explain.

Snot rag has nothing to do with it. Being a conservative does. The fact that you’re ignoring better conservatives in a Presidential race proves to me you don’t care about conservatism at all- only falling behind the almighty (R) with ‘Anybody but Obama’ guiding your way. Good luck with that.

“I just would like to know EXACTLY WHO these serial Perry haters are supporting?”

Happy to enlighten you: OBAMA.

Several have actually stated that they prefer giving Obama another 4 years, rather than see Perry as president. That should tell you how conservative they really are.
