Nearly 40 percent of Europeans suffer mental illness

LONDON (Reuters) - Europeans are plagued by mental and neurological illnesses, with almost 165 million people or 38 percent of the population suffering each year from a brain disorder such as depression, anxiety, insomnia or dementia, according to a large new study.

With only about a third of cases receiving the therapy or medication needed, mental illnesses cause a huge economic and social burden -- measured in the hundreds of billions of euros -- as sufferers become too unwell to work and personal relationships break down.

"Mental disorders have become Europe's largest health challenge of the 21st century," the study's authors said.

At the same time, some big drug companies are backing away from investment in research on how the brain works and affects behavior, putting the onus on governments and health charities to stump up funding for neuroscience.

"The immense treatment gap ... for mental disorders has to be closed," said Hans Ulrich Wittchen, director of the institute of clinical psychology and psychotherapy at Germany's Dresden University and the lead investigator on the European study.

Yup, I agree.

That disease is most assuredly part of being a socialist.

And - as such - I don’t give a smelly Obama.

Does this mean that 100% of Europeans are 40% mentally ill?

That’s nothing. 100% of Democrats suffer debilitating mental illness and an inability to grasp reality. They believe in utopian dreams, free lunches for everybody, and peaceful muslims.

There are 2 factors here:

1) the propensity of socialism to drive the slave-class insane

2) the propensity of socialism to impell ‘science’ to ‘discover’ more of a need for more socialism.

And as an aside, isn’t it amusing that the ‘study’ finds that this makes people unable to work, when the society they live in is unable to create jobs?

In a separate, unrelated poll, it was found that 40% of Europeans don’t work, choosing, instead, to live like parasites off the efforts of those who do.

Considering that Islam is the perfect system to create psychosis and that Socialism is a mental illness too, the numbers might be correct.

yeah right, this is “lunatic” data, so to speak

even granting the declining mental faculties of people under socialism, there is no way that 38% are annually suffering any serious mental illness

if the 38% figure is real at all, it’s because they are classifying anyone who requests a sleeping med or an anti-anxiety med or even a temporary course of an anti-depressant as “mentally ill”

lots of people have an occasional problem with sleep etc. due to stress, travel, family or job issues etc. it does not make them “mentally ill” or suffering from any “brain disease”

a lot of that 38% figure, if they did not just make it up, consists of the “worried well” who have some very temporary issue

[I write as someone who has dealt with serious mental illness with a family member, and the distance from serious mental illness to minor transient symptoms is huge — it’s ludicrous to discuss 38% of any large population as suffering from “mental illness”]

I have to blame this one on Bush. His influence is truly worldwide.

Europe illustrates the triumph of Godlessness. Weekly
church attendance is 5% (compared to 35-40% in the U.S.) The
continent is ravaged by a plummeting birthrate, soaring Moslem immigration and a pervasive moral malaise among the young.

In her book “Menace in Europe,” Claire Berlinski writes: “A
poll conducted in 2002 found that while 61% of Americans had
hope for the future, only 42% of the residents of the United
Kingdom shared it. Only 29% of Frenchmen reported feeling hope, and only 15% of Germans.

These statistics suggest … that without
some transcendental common belief, hopelessness is a universal condition. I do not believe it is an accident that Americans are both more religious and more hopeful than Europeans, and more apt, as well, to believe that their country stands for something greater and more noble than themselves.” ~ Don Feder
