John Birch Society: Rick Perry Proposed Bi-National Health Insurance with Mexico
The New American ^ | 05 September 2011 | Kelly Holt

Posted on 09/05/2011 4:59:14 PM PDT by Tempest

The article focused on Perry’s comments at a Border Summit speech in south Texas (8-22-01), days before the 9-11 attacks, about bi-national health insurance — Texas-funded coverage for both U.S. and Mexican border residents. The governor’s statement favored a study, required by the Legislature, about "the feasibility of bi-national health insurance.”

The DMN continued, "Katherine Cesinger, spokeswoman for Perry’s campaign, downplayed the topic of bi-national health insurance. 'A bill was passed by the Legislature that authorized a study to look into this issue, which ultimately concluded there were numerous barriers to accomplishing that idea, and the Legislature took no further action on this concept,' she said." However, in spite of the Legislature’s failure to act, Perry made clear his willingness to funnel Texas’s assets to Mexico.

Perry has consistently positioned himself as a social and fiscal conservative, but the above comments reveal a different record. Indeed, four years later, Perry noted his approval of a bigger example of socialized medicine when he embraced Hillary Clinton’s national health care plan.

It was just a study that concluded it would be a bad idea.

I haven’t lost sight. I do not feel like replacing one peice of garbage with another. It’s time to get a pricipaled governemtn in office instead of letting the establishment repblicans make our choices for us.

I don’t know when California started allowing this. It’s insurance not welfare. You know it makes people pay the costs of their own health care not the government. I thought that was a good thing. /rolls eyes

For anybody who cares about the truth (clearly not the OP), here is what Perry did.

He endorsed a newly proposed (circa 2001) Texas law that would allow PRIVATE Texas insurance companies to issue policies to US and Mexican citizens living within 62 miles of the border. The government would play ZERO role outside of changing the law so the insurance companies could offer the product.

It was a 100% free market solution to a huge problem in Texas -- the state with the largest number of residents in the country without health insurance.

The OP is trying to trash Perry, as usual, but his approach to this issue is 180 degrees from ObamaCare, or RomneyCare, or HillaryCare.

Not everyone agrees with Perry's approach, but the notion that this was some sort of secret giveaway of Texan's hard earned tax dollars to Mexicans is absurd.

You are working overtime to post as many anti-Perry postings you can. Then 0bama white House thanks you.

I'm sure they thank FReeper Cincinatus' Wife even more, for her multitude of Perry-pal postings, booming up her boy early morning at oh-dark-thirty and every night late into the night, combing the world for articles she can put up about Perry, Perry, Perry's the Won!

Especially since the Obamarrhoids want to run against a thoroughly-compromised RiNO timeserver, as opposed to someone who can unleash lightning on command and stir the conservative base to roaring enthusiasm in one speech.

So how about, people put up the articles they think are important, and you Perrybots don't give them a hard time about it? Or at least give them the leeway your own side is taking for granted.

Yes it is! I have a family member utilize Mexican medical services for a procedure his overpriced insurance wouldn’t pay for. He got excellent care and saved about $40,000.

Nice death-message ...... but it would be at least pro-forma polite and helpful if you would explain how she failed, and give some details.

Thanks in advance.

Disgusting. This guy is a gutter rat and I can't believe FREEPERS are blinded by his fraud as a conservative.

Believe it. Perry has many liberals who support him and his liberal record. One need look no further than any Perry thread to see it.
