Ron Paul blasts Texas Governor Rick Perry in a new TV ad that refers to Perry as a Cheerleader for Al Gore in 1988. The Paul ad then refers to him as the one who stood with Reagan.
AUSTIN Rep. Ron Pauls newly released attack ad refers to the congressman as, the one who stood with Reagan. But his 1987 letter announcing his resignation from the Republican Party indicates Reagan drove him from the party.
Ronald Reagan was one of the most significant presidents of our generation, and a proven fiscal conservative, Perry spokesman Mark Miner said. Like President Reagan, Gov. Perry has cut taxes and freed employers from government regulations that kill jobs.
Rep. Pauls letter is a broadside attack on every element of President Reagans record and philosophy. Paul thought President Reagan was so bad, he left the GOP, said Miner. It will be interesting to hear Rep. Paul explain why Reagan drove him from the party at tomorrows debate on the grounds of the Reagan Library.
In one part of the letter, Paul wrote, There is no credibility left for the Republican Party as a force to reduce the size of government. That is the message of the Reagan years.
Paul continued, Thanks to the President and Republican Party, we have lost the chance to reduce the deficit and the spending in a non-crisis fashion. Even worse, big government has been legitimized in a way the Democrats never could have accomplished.
Paul even went so far as to call Reaganomics, warmed-over Keynesianism.
Paul summarizes his reason for leaving the Republican Party with the following tirade:........ Ron Paul's political ad against Gov. Rick Perry and Ron Paul's 1987 letter
Priceless. Ron Paul is a lunatic.
Where have all the Paulhriods gone? Is it still too early in the afternoon for them to come out? Mom needs to make the basement a little less accomidating for them I’m guessing.
Ron Paul is a shady character to me. Some think he is this principled guy. HARDLY. He is just like the Dums..thinks everyone suffers from long AND short term memory loss.
Sorry for the double post.
Ron Paul had some nasty comments about Reagan in his 88 campaign including saying he made Jimmy Carter look conservative.
But this part is true and should be weighed when considering whether to support Rick Perry:
After Reagan, Senator Al Gore ran for president pledging to raise taxes and increase spending, pushing his liberal values. And Al Gore found a cheerleader in Texas named Rick Perry. Rick Perry helped lead Al Gores campaign to undo the Reagan Revolution, fighting to elect Al Gore president of the United States.

IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
How classy and telling that you choose to quote someone you call a “lunatic” and a “liar” in order to slam someone.
It will be interesting to see how Perry handles the little twirp in the debate. I can’t imagine he wants to spend much time responding to a little twirp... but on the other hand he does have to respond to an attack. I suspect it will be something quick and sharp... and then move on to real issues.
Ron Paul is not an issue. He’s a non-entity.
Perry changed parties in 1989, joining Phil Gramm and other conservative Texas Democrats, who now had a true ideological party with a burgeoning Texas GOP.
When Perry campaigned for Lt. Gov. [1998], he and his campaign staff were in it to win and his hard-nosed style was against the "friendly" advice and request of GWB [in re-election bid for Texas Gov] and Rove to run easy against Sharp, a popular democrat (and Aggie friend of Perry's from their A&M years together). Rove wanted to broaden Bush's base for his upcoming White House run. Perry told them where to stick their advice, because he knew the voters would vote for Bush for Gov. and then cross back over and vote for Sharp (D) for Lt. Gov, if he just walked through the motions like the Bush-Rove team asked him to do.
Perry won the seat for Lt. Gov. -- the first Republican elected to that office since Reconstruction. Now 13 years later and into his 3rd term as Texas governor, the GOP holds a super majority. So Perry has earned his conservative spurs -- fighting both parties!
[The Bushes and Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison's primary challenge against Gov. Perry in the 2010 election too]

Yes, we know you have an excuse for everything Señor Perrinista says or does no matter how liberal it may have been.
What’s interesting to me is how the things that you post — the actual history — get totally ignored by the gnat-swarm of Perry-bashers. For example, they’ll read what you just posted here and say “But he was a Democrat!”

MR. RUSSERT: You're running as a Republican. In your--on your Web site, in your brochures, you make this claim: "Principled Leadership. Ron was also one of only four Republican Congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president against Gerald Ford in" '76. And yet you divorced yourself from Ronald Reagan. There's a photograph of you, Ronald Reagan on the right, heralding your support of Ronald Reagan. You said this: "Although he was once an ardent supporter of President Reagan, Paul now speaks of him as a traitor leading the country into debt and conflicts around the world. "I want to totally disassociate myself from the Reagan Administration." And you go on to The Dallas Morning News: "Paul now calls Reagan a `dramatic failure.'"
REP. PAUL: Well, I'll bet you any money I didn't use the word traitor. I'll bet you that's somebody else, so I think that's misleading. But a failure, yes....
MR. RUSSERT: But if he's a total failure, why are you using, using his picture in your brochure?
REP. PAUL: Well, because he, he ran on a good program, and his, his idea was a limited government. Get rid of the Department of Education, a strong national defense.
Ron Paul is a hypocrite and like his mentor, Murry Rothbard, a Reagan hater to boot. Not to mention a kook!
"Classy"? Interesting that the poster recognized as a 'RINO Troll' would use that word.
Paul is a lunatic and a liar. And even though I recognize that I can still realize, accept and admit that part of what he said was true.
All politicians speak out of both sides of their mouths, and Ron Paul has made a career of doing just that.
When did Algore serve as President?
So you didn’t read what she wrote. You proved my point one minute before I made it.
