Original Title: WMAL EXCLUSIVE: LISTEN - Obama's New Rule For Political Civility.

WASHINGTON -- A top aide to President Obama says Americans must decide for themselves how to be civil with each other -- a rather sharp departure from comments that Obama has himself made in the past.

In an interview with the WMAL Morning Majority Wednesday, White House Communications Director Dan Pfieffer said the Obama administration is not going to be drawn into the "gotcha game" of reacting to comments made by Teamsters President James Hoffa, Jr. At a Labor Day rally in Detroit, Hoffa urged the President to use unions as his army to fight back against the Tea Party and "take these son-of-a-bitches out."

Pfeiffer told WMAL that President Obama is not going to "serve as the speech police for the Democratic party."

"What everyone should do is make their best judgment of how they be civil," said Pfieffer. "What I don't think makes sense is to distract from the major issues at hand to try to get everyone to go back and approve and disapprove of every single thing that every single person has said," he added.

The rules derived after Tucson are as follows:

1. Republicans/conservatives must be civil in the political discourse. Any violent imagery or military metaphors are banned, because deranged people such as the Tucson shooter hear this, and then go out and shoot somebody when they hear Republican rhetoric, or see Sarah Palin’s website which showed targets on certain Democrat congressional districts.

2. Democrats/liberals are allowed to say and do whatever the heck they want, because liberals are specifically exempt from the lessons of Tucson, and the rules derived after Tucson. A derange person would never be inspired by liberal rhetoric to go out and shoot somebody, because liberals are such peaceful people. When a liberal says something inflammatory, we all know these are figures of speech. When a conservative says something, it’s to be taken literally, which takes up back to rule # 1 above.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfieffer said the Obama administration is not going to be drawn into the "gotcha game"

That's only because we did get him.

His remark is correct. The President is not our daddy. He just needs to be consistent.

so I suppose saying something like “Mr. Hoffa, with all due respect, F*** You!” fits the definition of the New Civility?

Just tells you who is running the show. It’s a shame when the president of the most powerful country in the know universe cannot/will not stand up to a 2 bit hood

But Sarah not even in opffice or a candaiate MUST have her speech policed.

It’s not surprising that someone like Obama would reject work.

What a priceless quote. And how embarrassing this is. He just gave away something from the political playbook.
If it's a "gotcha game" when it's used on him then it's the same thing when it's used on others.

Not that I expect to see a reduction at all on the games played.

I heard this interview live at 0700. Pfieffer was as slimey as pig s*^t. Would not answer the questions about decorum and completely dodged the obvious hypocrisy vis-a-vis Obama’s rhetoric when challenged. The crap about everyone being responsible for their own comments was made up on the fly as a way avoiding comment on Obama’s silence about Hoffa. Altogether a stunningly weak attempt to avoid responsibility for Hoffa’s incendiary conduct on behalf of the election campaign.
