If he comes across as competent, in charge of the facts, aggressive toward Obama, and can put together two coherent sentences in a row, he will "win" the debate. It is the other candidates that have to hit the home run in order to try to knock him out of his spot at the top.

You are right. You have pegged it exactly right. That's exactly what Perry has to do.
And if he fails to do that, he'll be in some hot water. But I don't think he'll fail.
