More Republicans skipping Obama’s jobs speech
YahooNews ^ | Sept. 7, 2011 | Chris Moody

When President Obama delivers his address on a new job-creation plan to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, he won't be speaking to a sold-out crowd. Several lawmakers are still determining whether it is worth their time to stay in Washington to hear the president, and some are already planning to skip it.

Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter is the latest to announce that he will not be there, choosing to attend a party to watch the New Orleans Saints' opening football game instead.

"As a fanatic, I have my priorities," Vitter told Fox News on Wednesday.

To the best of my knowledge, speeches like this are traditionally given from the White House. One of my first memories of a President giving a major speech is Reagan walking down that hallway and stepping to the podium.

Competent Presidents do not need a self-congratulatory, fist-pumping audience to make a point.

Presidential speeches are traditionally confident, important, and need no hollering/clapping fan-fare.... and, if I recall correctly - they used to be rare.

Calling on a JSOC, in my opinion, makes Obama look very weak and narcissistic. He is continuing to prove that his instincts are very bad.

I have to go and clean the toilet. I am going to miss it too.

In that case, you'll be watching far less crap than the rest of us.

“I too, am keeping my record in tact. I have never, ever, watched an Obama speech - why start now?”

The sight of his sissified face makes me want to puke. The sound of his arrogant voice makes me want to punch something. I, too have never felt the need to torture myself with his empty platitudinous bullshit. What a damned loser.

FINALLY! An elected Republican giving Obama the respect he deserves. Enough with the “scheduling conflicts” “meeting with constituents” and other lame excuses. It’s high time everyone treat Obama the way he treats the American taxpayer.

I’ll skip it too because it’s all bullshit. I have more important things to do than be lied to.

Are they going to inter-mix like they did at SOTU with their BFF’s from across the aisle?

Speaker: Will all members of both Chambers move down to the front to fill the empty seats, please.

I’ll be skipping the speech, too. I’m busy. Not sure yet on what, exactly. But yeah, I’m pretty sure I’ll be busy.

I'm skipping the speech, too. I'm so busy, I won't have a chance to set my DVR.

Given the way obama has abused and debased the office of the presidency, as a personal campaign platform and a venue to lecture and belittle the GOP to score cheap shots with his party, I say .... bug out, guys

If the GOP applauds his trite black-preacher calls for them to concede to his ridiculous ineffective ruinous govt programs, they are tools

If they don’t appplaud they will be called obstructionist rasist tools of the hobbit terrorist barbarian Tea Party

If someone rolls his eyes or mutters under his breath at some outrageous Barky lie, he will be all over the national MEdia

Suzy-floozy Collins and Limpy, and Juan McCain, and his boy Linsey, all will be there to ooze “bipartisan” good will toward the boy king, to applaud him for “liberating” Libya oh and by the way, he killed osama personally ya know yada yada yada

The rest can and should say FUBO

“These guys are giving ammo to the other side.”

The other side is not about whom I am concerned . Their media whores will run with it, either way. It’s our base I am concerned about. It is time we started fighting fire with fire. That takes balls. We so sorely are wanting to see some/all if you will, pubbies grow some balls and use them. Besides, I don’t intend to watch it, why should they?

Sorry but no. Obama decided to be petty and he’s now getting a long overdue smackdown. Sometimes turning the other cheek doesn’t work, they have to be punished. If this causes his team to think twice before pulling such a petty move again if for no reason then concern it’ll blow up in their face? Good.

We’ll agree to disagree. Obama changed the speech date. This is some stupid showboating by some politicians. This isn’t “punishing” anyone. He backed off the original date he wanted. Just remember the next time... IF we have a Republican president and an issue and the president wants a joint session ... what are you going to say if liberals say, “I’m not going to the Joint session ... I want to watch some football or have a Twitter war during the speech.”

????

You’ll say, “You are a Congressman/Senator and the president has requested a joint session ... so do your job and attend.”

I have never once listened to or watched a single “O” speech.

Good for you! I wonder how many of us there are. My wife and I decided from day 1 to change the channel whenever the ass clown appears.

We'll put on a classic movie or turn off the tube completely to avoid listening to him.

I remember how the smarmy little adolescent prick made it a point to show his public disrespect to President Bush in the waning days of his presidency and we decided then and there we would return the favor.

Why don’t we just dissolve the government? Where did maturity go? Whether you like it or not ... he’s the president for now.

I think saying, “I’m skipping the speech to tweet from my office” or to watch some football is childish.

Oh, I know PEOPLE are angry. But a stand was already made in getting him to move the date and in saying there would be no response.

This is just petty grandstanding.
