More Republicans skipping Obama’s jobs speech
YahooNews ^ | Sept. 7, 2011 | Chris Moody

When President Obama delivers his address on a new job-creation plan to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, he won't be speaking to a sold-out crowd. Several lawmakers are still determining whether it is worth their time to stay in Washington to hear the president, and some are already planning to skip it.

Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter is the latest to announce that he will not be there, choosing to attend a party to watch the New Orleans Saints' opening football game instead.

"As a fanatic, I have my priorities," Vitter told Fox News on Wednesday.

Are you mentally retarded? When did I say I would cede America to a socialist?

Hyperbole much?

I disagree with these people saying they won’t attend the speech for petty reasons. I think they should attend.

That doesn’t make me NOT a conservative.

Conservatives have enough of a spine to dare to disagree with pukes who would lob stupid allegations of “ceding to a socialist” at them because they disagree.

You think you are rational with that? Time to reinforce the deadbolt on your bunker?

"I feel, however, that there are certain precedents we don’t need to be setting."

Like giving a campaign speech before a joint session of congress???

I’ll be watching the game.

It will be far more edifying.

Is that the Saudi king?

I think that Bush has kissed him and bowed.

I don’t understand, though, really why a photo of Obama bowing is relevant on a thread about Obama’s jobs speech.

There’s a lot of hate for Obama ... and I guess I’m the only one willing to disagree here on this thread...

So ... get upset at me if you want to ... but I disagree. I think these people should attend the speech.

Bush held hands with the Saudi King. Not the same as bowing down to a foreugn leader. He held hands as a show of respect for this foreign leader within our country, but he did not place that respect ABOVE that of the American people

The relevance to bambis speech is a matter of respect. Bambi does not respect the office of potus, that is why he has lost the respect of the people.

Let me try another way to explain. It's not his speech, it is his actions leading up to the speech. His actions prove a disrespect for the constitution, this country and its people.

Bambi wants respect, yet gives none. Well, he gives it to foreigners, but not to all of "We the People". I'm not upset with you at all, but I think you misjudge those of us who understand that you receive what you give.

I have more on this, but I'll save it, and wait to see if you want to continue.

The GOP and Tea Party are screwed by the media no matter what we do. SO have FUN with it. It’s nothing but a rah-rah campaign commercial. The GOP should call it as such and tell the Odummer to call when he has a plan on paper. The ass didn’t even bother to consult with the GOP when asked, why the hell do we owe him the time of day? I’d love it if my Senators and Rep walked on this blowhard.

Odummer has blown courtesy and respect for the office out of the water. He deserves none.

I hate to sound all high school and all, but, "I wouldn't give bambi the sweat off of my behind if he were on fire".

Does that sound like respect to you?

Am I getting confused with some other poster? LOL!

“I have more on this, but I’ll save it, and wait to see if you want to continue.”

Continue what? Being a person who thinks that the politicians need to show up at the Joint Session?

I know you loathe Obama. I don’t respect him, as I said, but I respect the office of President of the USA.

Boehner entertained his request and invited him to speak tomorrow.

If you are hungry for blood... go over to Democratic Underground. I just stated my opinion that I think skipping the speech for stupid or vengeful reasons is wrong.

You aren’t going to shake me from that view. If you were able to shake me from that view.... I wouldn’t have posted that view.

I’m not a member of a hivemind.

No. I wanted to continue a civilized conversation of differing views, something you are obviously incapable of.

I know you loathe Obama. I don’t respect him, as I said, but I respect the office of President of the USA.

I am so glad you respect the office. How high and mighty of you.

Boehner entertained his request and invited him to speak tomorrow.

Good for him!

Sweetheart, I don't think I'm the one with the "hungry for blood" problem.

You aren’t going to shake me from that view. If you were able to shake me from that view.... I wouldn’t have posted that view.

I’m not a member of a hivemind.

I didn't want to shake you from your precious HIVEMIND VIEW. I actually wanted to exchange ideas.

YOU have a problem. Don't reply to me.

I’ve read that there have been 40 times in the last 30 years where a President addressed a joint session of Congress. 30 were State of the Union addresses, so only 10 other times where the President addressed a joint session.

“George H.W. Bush made two special addresses to Congress in four years. One was on the need to go to war to reverse Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the other announced victory in that war. Bill Clinton made only one special address to Congress in eight years. In September 1993, Clinton urged the joint session of Congress to pass his health care plan...George W. Bush also made only one special address to a joint session of Congress in eight years. On September 20, 2001 he announced the War on Terror in response to the attacks on September 11.”

Jobs speech? The GOP should have said they will attend a joint session when the President gets his own party in the Senate to pass a budget. Or when something special happens.

Look at me! I’m replying to you even though you told me not to!

I’m such a rebel.

You should report me to the authorities for this.

I thought this was a thread about politicians not going to Obama’s joint session...??

I think they are being petty.

No talk about how bad Obama is or how much he is loathed is really going to shake my opinion that these politicians are being petty.

That’s good info that I was wondering about. I should have looked it up myself.

Of course, apologists will just say, “We are on the verge of a crisis ... so this is a special circumstance.”

I feel, however, that there are certain precedents we don’t need to be setting. These guys are giving ammo to the other side.

Well, no.

Joint sessions have been traditionally reserved for important matters of state.

It's generally accepted wisdom Obama is giving a campaign speech instead, offering more of the same old.

Obama has talked down to congressmen in meetings and to USSC Justices in the Well of the House.

I think no response is smart tactically and smart politically.

I think it would be appropriate for Boehner to issue a short statement, however...

"Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over again and again and expecting different results."

If I ever report someone to the “authorities” it would not be for attention seeking.

You obviously know from the thread that your view was in the minority.

I was one person who actually wanted to discuss it with you. Opposing view or not, I held out the hand of friendship to you. But you don’t want friendship.

You would rather vomit your skewed opinion on me without discussion; force me to accept it because you say it is so, thus empowering you in some way.

I don’t play that game. I am not interested in arging for arguments sake.

I was one person willing to discuss this with you, and you friggin’ Blew It!

So you just go ahead and feel like you have won, but know there is one person in this world who knows you have lost.

You posted a pic of Obama bowing and said “This person has not earned the respect of Freedom Loving United States Citizens.”

I said:

“But he’s still the president. And didn’t Bush bow to the same guy?” ( and I believe Bush did when he got medal from the same guy.)

You said:

“No. He did not. If you say he did, show me the picture. I’m not talking diplomacy, I’m talking BOWING DOWN to a foreign leader, showing your belly like a low-dog.

No President has EVER put themselves in a subservient position - except bambi. “
