Another day, another religious sensitivity concern, as the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks inches ever closer.
While New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided to exclude all religion from his citys remembrance ceremonies, in our nations capital the Washington National Cathedral commemorations organizers have decided to exclude evangelical Christianity.
The Cathedrals A Call to Compassion on September 11 will include a bishop, a rabbi, a Tibetan lama, a Buddhist nun, representatives of the Hindu and Jain faiths, an imam and an Islamic musician. Noticeably absent from the invitation list and secular service at which President Obama will be speaking is a leader to represent the evangelical community.

God was not happy with the news and made His displeasure known:

Oh...you mean politically conservative.
Yet Bloomberg is all for building the victory mosque at Ground Zero.
Is this happening under Roman Catholic auspices, or government auspices? If it’s officially RC then even though I disagree that it’s appropriate to shut out Protestants they have the right of freedom of association to do that. If it’s government, then well it’s weird, and why isn’t the ACLU bashing this “mixed establishment of religion”?
Wouldn’t be neat if there was suddenly a HUGH FlashPrayer? I’m series!
The Northeastern Progressive Power Elites have always had it in for the South ... no big news here that they would exclude them. Wonder when they’ll decide to declare war on them?
“Remember what I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.”
John 15:20 (NIV)
National Cathedral is Episcopalian. Surely they need not share the stage with their unwashed, uneducated brethren, when there are other denominations that will earn much bigger progressive points.
National Cathedral is Episcopalian. Sharing the stage with non-progressive fellow Protestants will lose them progressive points; sharing with non-Christians will gain progressive points.
Why in the HELL did they go out of their way to include the very REASON 9-11 happened ??!!??
W T F ??!!??
This is a shining example of the STUPIDITY of political correctness that is destroying this country. I LOATHE liberalism, and this is why.
Whenever I see that stupid COEXIST bumper sticker I yell IDIOT!!!
The “terrorists” say they are angry at the Catholic church for the Crusades. Why then shut out the Protestants, who almost all disagreed with the Catholic church that the Crusades were appropriate?
A rabbi, a muslim, a lama, and an episcopal bishop walk into a comemmorative service. The congregation asks, “where’s the Christian?”
Why are there 2 Muslim representatives? There is an Imam and a “Muslim musician” on the list. What music does the Muslim musician play?
Excluding large denominations of Christians from this interfaith service is a clear signal that they are not welcome. We must have an obscure sect such as Jains represented, but Baptists or Catholics or Pentecostals need not attend. Something stinks here.
Ya I hate the Co-exist bumber stickers too. I always want to ask, which of the major faith traditions on the bumber sticker have trouble co-existing with their neighbors of other faiths??????
OK, well that answers the question. As a religious body, they have freedom of association to do that, however inappropriate that may be. Complaints should go to the Anglicans. The _resident has no control, at least officially, over it.
