New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez slammed fellow Gov. Rick Perry over immigration on the Laura Ingraham show today, albeit with only partial facts at her disposal:
Ingraham: “I asked you about Rick Perry’s approach to immigration. Is his approach, including that DREAM Act, something that we should be pursuing nationally and is it something that you support?”
Martinez: “No, I don’t. It is not comprehensive reform to put people who are here illegally, who violated the law, and put them in front of the line for those folks who have been waiting and doing all the right things to come to the United States, to come here legally, and/or to become a citizen. We cannot allow those folks to just jump the line.”

I don’t know a lot about Governor Martinez, but what was odd about that interview was that Laura asked her twice what she meant by “comprehensive reform”, a term Martinez used more than once.
Martinez never answered and Ingraham gave up on that one, I guess. But the governor never addressed the big question so many politicians avoid: would she ever support amnesty for illegals?

As much as I want to see Susana "shakin' things up" in NM, I must say a Sarah/Susana ticket is REALLY appealing to me.
What dud she just say? It’s wrong for people here illegally to jump in front of the line! That’s what amnesty is, whether it’s Dream Act or any other form

One of the first things Martinez did after becoming governor was work to stop illegals from obtaining drivers licenses.
And she also opposed it because it's not "comprehensive reform". Does anyone know just what she does support? She didn't answer Laura's attempts to get more detail.
Her only problem is that she is accusing him of things he didn't suggest. She was talking about things that were in the Federal Dream Act, which Perry does not support. The Texas Dream Act is limited to providing in-state college tuition rates to children of illegals who have gone to Texas schools and have graduated from a Texas high school.
I don't know if Laura gave Susana bad information or if she just doesn't know the difference between the Federal Dream Act and the Texas Dream Act, so I will assume her comments were made out of ignorance and not malice.
This excerpt is only part of the interview. Ingraham asked her twice what she meant by “comprehensive reform” and got no answer. Can you point to some past statements of the governor where she elaborated more on what she does and does not support?
I don’t know a lot about her. But she had plenty of chances to go into more detail this morning and did not when asked.

She hasn’t stated an overall policy regarding illegal immigration, she has worked very hard on repealing the law in NM that allows illegals to get drivers licenses. After failing to get a vote on it in the Senate (it passed the house), she directed the DMV to send out letters to 10,000 illegal or foreign nationals to have them come to Albuquerque and prove residence. So far a great deal of fraud has been exposed by this request, as well as a majority of the letters being returned as undeliverable or no forwarding address.
I would say she is not pro illegals, although more info would be nice.
Junior B was room mated with one of Perry’s DREAM Act illegals at college. We were paying out the wahzoo but the illegal was getting all sorts of freebies. I’ll refrain from saying more....
I’m a bit lazy at the moment, but did Palin campaign for Martinez...maybe the fighting back is beginning through proxy?
