Because we aborted 50 million of the last generation we are running out of lower tier investors. If it wasn't for all the illegal aliens giving birth to anchor babies, the system would be destined to collapse in the next 10 years. But if they ever start aborting their children or start practicing birth control, then the system will collapse even sooner. Nobody needs to explain how it is a Ponzi scheme. It is what it is. It is. I will be ready for SS in a few years. When I was first in the work place as a young professional there were people telling me then that SS was in trouble. I didn't expect to collect it, but I was paying in because of my parents and older relatives - or that's how I looked at it.
Well, isn’t it true that in the near future, there will be two or more SS recipients for each working person paying into the system? How is that not a Ponzi scheme?
I think Perry is on the right track, by adamantly declaring up front that current recipients and those approaching SS age are not in the mix of changes to the system. And all the GOP candidates must continually say the same thing. It is going to be bad news for the general election if we have one(Romney?) or more of the candidates going after Perry on this, and scaring the elderly. I know my own mom(a life long Republican) expressed concern over this, and I had to explain to her that no one is talking about changing the plan for them.
The fact is that, while you can’t lose the elderly vote, we need to win the other age groups. What about the people in their 20s, 30s, 40s? I have a 27 year old son and a 25 year old daughter, and both of them think they will never get paid back ANY of their SS contributions. How much longer do we expect them to just sit there and pay into a system with no return? This needs to be made a voting issue for these groups, because the dems will never address it for them. The dems will just expect them to keep paying in even though they can see they will not see any of there money back.

The desire of fiscal conservatives to keep social conservatives on the "back of the bus" won't work because the two are tied together whether people want to recognize it or not.
The Ponzi Scheme position that everyone is going to jump on is a brilliant tactical position to take. Perry's position is accurate and it is the mainstream position of the Pub Party.
THIS! There are real consequences for killing off an entire generation. This is just one of them. Actually it's a couple of them as it pertains to so many folks view of immigration issues.
