Polls have shown that Perry and Romney are well ahead of any of the others in the race. But it took Wednesdays debate preceded by questions about Perrys staying power and preparation for a national race, and about Romneys ability to respond to a serious Republican rival to demonstrate that both candidates are ready to battle it out for the foreseeable future.
The other candidates will have to muscle their way into the conversation, and several tried. But visually, the organizers from NBC and Politico set the stage in a way that emphasized the narrowing of the Republican race in the last few weeks. Perry and Romney stood next to one another at the center of the stage, with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Romneys right and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) on Perrys left.
The focus throughout the evening was on Perry, who was still untested as a national candidate. One of the most revealing moments came when he was asked about his belief, expressed in his 2010 book, Fed Up!, that Social Security was a failure and a giant Ponzi scheme.
Rather than back away or soften his comments, as some candidates might have done, the Texas governor didnt flinch over his conclusions, even when it was pointed out that former vice president Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, former White House senior adviser in the George W. Bush administration, had criticized him for such language. He dismissed Rove, who was also an adviser to Perry earlier in his career, and said he disagreed with Cheney.
I dont care what anyone says, he responded, arguing that the system is in such shaky financial shape that young workers cannot count on its benefits. We know that, the American people know that, but, more importantly, those 25- and 30-year-olds know

Paul has been slandering and spewing his usual convoluted lies about Perry for some time now. I see them on this forum regularly. Perry finally had the chance to let him know what he thinks about it. You know, Man to Mouth.....
“Nobodies puppet” you say? Good one!! Try islam and laraza for starters. They say jump...and the fraud senor ricardo hussein perrynista says how high. Enough of these open borders, illegals and muslim lovin’ RINOS. Enough of idiot jerks like mitty boy and paul also. Long past time for a true conservative as POTUS.
:o)
I know. And isn’t it funny how the Paultards have started slinking off? Have you noticed? Ever since Paul said he was for open and unprotected borders last night. There was an audible gasp on FR when he said that!
On Hannity tonight, Rand Paul said Perry and his father were just having a friendly conversation. LOL
Says you make shit up.
You are kidding, right? The guy has been under massive attack from those outlets for weeks.
That is exactly what I have been saying as well. I like that he doesn't back down. That is great. But he has to back up his mouth. That means teaching and persuading the public. I didn't see that aspect in the debate. Hopefully he will improve over time.

Perry is pretty flat spoken and stands up for his religion and his beliefs. He is conservative, both fiscal and social, defense hawk, and a friend of Israel. These things are important to me. I am from TX and have voted for him in several elections, will again in the GOP primary and will in the Presidential race. He can beat Obama and his teleprompter. Best of all, he has a full resume, and Obama has community organizing.
You obviously didn't watch the debate then. Every question was designed to make Perry look bad (from the prism of liberalism) and the scripted failure to allow candidates an opening or closing statement was clearly designed to prevent Perry from introducing himself to a lot of voters who were watching him for the first time.
I agree wholeheartedly. Those issues are my litmus test as well as prolife, 2nd amendment and energy issues. All of which Gov Perry has shown himself to be a stand-out Governor.
On fast and furious, that will be fodder for the general election and by our nominee. There are no differences on the subject between our candidates that I know of. You will have a wait on that one. About knowing then if Rick’s for real.

The detractors are getting desperate. Their savior still sits at home, Perry is taking the American Political Map by storm and the big campaign money is starting to flow in to his headquarters by the truckload.
Today’s headlines revealed the honest truth about how well Perry really did and there is not much they can do to stop him.
This is quite predictable folks, a great man and tremendous speaker, as well as AA class Governor can’t be dragged into the mud. Mainly because he won’t sit quietly by and let them smear him.
It’s interesting, for years, the biggest complaint on this forum about Bush was, he was just too passive and did not defend his positions or explain, or fight back. Now that we have a stellar fighter, they want to destroy him every way they can.
Quite revealing in that respect, who and what they are.
Are you about 12, you never have anything to say but some childish attack.
